I think the really good writers had it the worst. I mean, knowing that you have this immense talent inside of you, can you imagine the pressure? I write, and, obviously, im no Hemmingway or anything, but i have my off days, when i cant think much less write, hell i can barely breathe! So, maybe the better you are, the harder it is, and the worse the let down may be, i dont know, just rantings i guess..

As for me... a lot of the time I think I am just utter shite and that's the most painful part. The other hard part is dedication. Sometimes the words flow out and sometimes having the follow-through to finish a novel just seems impossible.
I am a firm believer that in order to write well you need to have a community... people to give you encouragement, criticism, and a sense of communistic comaraderie.
The Beats had it... and thats why so many of them excelled. You can't write in a vacuum. You can't drink in a vacuum. You can't have sex with a vacuum cleaner, etc.
Pax Acidus is not supposed to be a club... its a kind of rallying cry. I am glad so many good people have heard it. That is what keeps it going and keeps me writing. For some of us its all that ultimately matters.

Your are so right I cant even think of anything else to say about it. I also feel your need for community. Sometimes I will be sitting there, with all these ideas swimming around in my head like little sperms, but i cant get even one out! not one!
I think maybe we as the human race are just doomed to live an unrealized exsitance. Does that make sence to you? It makes sence in my head. So many dreams, so many places we want to go in life, and how many of us ever really get there? Go to any trailer park in this god forsaken country and the numbers double, im tellin ya. All we do is bitch and moan and complain about how unfair life is, and how depressed we are, and how much everything is shite, but do any of us really try to make it any better?> No, we sit on our asses getting lazier and fatter by the day, wondering where our next fix/meal/drink/shelter is comming from, never thinking that maybe if we did something else we might get something else. These are the things i think about and cant get out, The turle in my pocket helps me, i guess he is my community.

Two onces makes a twice, Martino.
Bono was on Oprah last night. He was a big rock star going on about "Save Africa" His music might be shite now but the guy believes and I think he is finding that thing, the get off your arse and do something positive for the world Tasha wrote about. I mean instead of becoming a drugged out waster, by using his celebrity he has saved lives. So good on him, I say. It might not be punk rock, but it might be what we need more of, as long as Simple Minds dont reform to play Live Aid 2005.

I met a guy at a party in london last fall who spent a few months helping starving people in Africa and he said he could never be happy again in his life.
The memories would haunt him forever.
Eventually he couldn't take it any more and became a consultant for Price Waterhouse Coopers and lived in a giant apartment building on the Thames.
I sure am happy being a sloth...

A reformed Simple Minds in 2005!!! LOL!!!! That's funny.
Sparkle In the Rain AMEN, Sloth.
Glad you mentioned the vacuum cleaner, Martino,
I really did feel someone should speak up for sex with a vacuum cleaner. I'm sure it's been done.

Bono on Oprah? That in itself is comical. One of my closest friends is on that whole "save Africa" thing, he is a photographer and thinks if he goes over there and takes pictures of what its really like and publishes a book asking people to help, it will save people's lives. I dont know if i believe it will help, but at least he has a cause, i suppose. I mean, aren't there enough deprived pictures from Africa already?

I once met a Frenchman in a cafe that told me his best sex was with melons. He went into great detail on how to fuck melons, cantaloupe were his favorites. At the time I was young and not accustomed to French sexual fetishes and was shocked. Now, not much seems to phase me. I'm glad I'm no longer the young messed up kid I used to be, but at the same time somehow miss that naiveté.
