Today is the deadline for war. Bush says, come on ya’ all to his Allies, let’s go kick some butt. Today is also Saint Patrick’s Day. So, since this war is all about oil, and Guinness looks like oil in a glass, I’m launching the drinking for America campaign. From this day onward, to be a proud American, and show support on any issues my president and government sees fit, because they really do know best- just like the television show Father Knows Best, I’ll be drinking Guinness for the rest of my life. And yes, you guessed it, from now on I’m gonna call those black oily pints Freedom Pints! Cheers.

i think people are drinking more to numb the dread of impending war.

last weekend i held a party at a local place called the vinylbar. i had reason to celebrate so it was martino taking the tab for all his pals.

five hours and 22 gimlets and 7 mojitos and 6 bloody maries and countless beers and whatnot else later, we couldn't walk or drive, but we were happy (and i was a lot poorer). but guess what: two days later my hangover is gone, but the dread is back.

wish i could have been with you. in cheer and hangover. thanks for all the edits on BROM, I'm off to work on the mother fucker. fuck the dread. yeah it's hard to shake that feeling.

No kidding Martino. My problem is I'm supposed to decide whether I want to go for a two year degree or the long haul transfer to a 4 year school. I need to make this decision now because what classes I'm going to take in a few weeks depends on it. But I can't be arsed to think about the future and I can't seem to make the decision. I think I might just go for the two year degree because if I'm going to die I'd like to at least say I got a degree. But what if the economy goes to hell in a handbasket and I can't get a job even WITH the two year degree? Then it would be smarter for me to go ahead and transfer to another school. Back and forth I go with this crap in my head.

Blah, Blah, Blah ... war is bad, no doubt about it. I for one, though, don't feel some deep impending sense of doom over going into Iraq. I feel much more dread thinking about Kim Jong Il of North Korea having nukes. I remember all the outcry when we went into the Balkans and into what was the soverign nation of Yugoslavia's province of Kosovo. The US did not get UN backing for the latter and I believe it was the right thing to do. I did not vote for Mr. Bush. No doubt in that. I do have doubts about the war with Iraq, both for and against. And it is a fact that if Mr. Bush had not pushed for resolution 1441, there would be no inspectors in there to begin with. The threat of war is the only think that has gotten Mr. Hussein to cooperate in the minute way that he has so far. I regret that the situation has been approached badly on the diplomatic front. In the end if the US and any allies go into Iraq and topple the current regime, I will without a shred of doubt support the men and women of the military. And regardless of the way it has begun, I guarantee that if we are able to get Sadaam out without him actually bombing us and his own citizens, the populace will, in the end, be much, much, better off. We can sit and get drunk on our Guinness all day long while we shout blasphemy at our leaders ... but do you ever stop to think what the average Iraqi or North Korean might really say about their feelings on getting the chance at democracy if they actually could speak their minds openly and honestly??

Funny that the European nations that have most recently spent years under dictatorial rule are the ones most ardently supporting getting rid of another dictator (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Hungary, Romania, etc.).... funny too all the shouts of viva la France' and Germany with no mention of the other part of Europe of the other frame of mind.

By the way, get drunk all day on Guiness or REd Stripe or any damned Freedom Pint. Just be glad you can any time you want, any where. Would be nice of some of those folks living under despots like Sadaam could do the same and speak so vociferously against their leaders and not get their limbs hacked off.

what the hell.

you should stop fucking with the accusation of blasphemy. you will have noticed that all christian churches (except the baptist and fundamentalist ones) are against this preemptive, or better preventive war.

why does it cheese you off to hear that people have a feeling of dread? there is a good chance that bagdhad will suffer a siege like stalingrad. yeah sure we will see footage of the survivors cheering the U.S.. there will be thousands of children killed in this first illegal u.s. war since ages, but good ole myke will be cheering his president, cause he is a patriot. do what you want, but you should cut some slack for the people who think it stinks.

By the way, man ... I don't give 2 cents what any of the churches positions are on the imminent war in Iraq. Dare I say "Pope Pius" ?? Your presumption that I use the term blasphemy as a reference to religion and/or God is flat wrong. The basic definition of that word is ... and I am looking at it in a dictionary ... "to revile".

Good chance Baghdad will suffer a siege like Stalingrad? Perhaps, but I think not. Hell, perhaps the Republican Guard will run over the border with white flags waving. Perhaps not. Perhaps Sadaam will allow all of his citizens to vote freely, speak in dissent (much like you can now), and perhaps if the US & the UK stop the current southern and northen no-fly zones in Iraq, Sadaam won't go in and persecute the Kurds and Sunnis reminiscent of his deluging them with chemical weapons a decade ago. Somehow I doubt that too.

War is a dirty, ugly thing. No one doubts that. Unfortunately, it is sometimes necessary and fruitful in the end. And also unfortunately, sometimes you don't know if that tree will bear fruit until it's all over. To revert back to policies as dovish as that of Nevile Chamberlain won't work either.

Actually good ole myke won't cheer Bush but I will support the young men and women who make up our troops. As for giving slack to you and yours ... I'll give you as much as you've ever given me ... now would you like that slice of cheese with a chardonnay or zinfidel?

This is gonna be awful.

I can almost smell the burning flesh of Iraqi children already.

It won't be the first or last time... but I feel this is the most illegal act the US has ever committed and on par with Germany invading Poland.

Regardless of your views of Bush or the apparantly impending invasion, the correlation of the US invading Iraq to Adolf Hitler invading Poland is, in my humble opinion, a truly distorted comparison. Absolutely makes no sense to compare the two.
