Anyone know who does the great version of the very good Tears for Fears song Mad World that is featured in the very good film Donnie Darko? Amanda thinks it's Mike Stipe. And where can I get it on vinyl?

Ha! Who says i can't surf the net? Look what I found. Anyone intrested in film and music (I suspect many of us here at PA) should check this out. Being a very big Joy Dividion fan I was interested in the fact they wanted to use Love Will Tear Us Apart for the opening credits but couldn't get the rights so had to go with Echo and the Bunnymen, still a good choice.

Certainly they crossed that transatlantic divide that is so hard for many US bands to cross "we are American BUT..."

I don't know anything about the movie Donnie Darko or its soundtrack. But I do want to say that Tears For Fears did some amazing stuff in the 80's, most notably the Songs From The Big Chair album. Although "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" has been played probably way too many times on the radio, it still gives me chills EVERY time I hear it. "Mad World" however was from their first album "The Hurting". And funnily enough, from your link McC, it was indeed them on the soundtrack rather than a cover. That suits me, because if someone said "someone has covered a TFF song" I would have yawned and said "how can they top the originals?"
Did they modernize the song? I wonder, I mean, does it sound like they redid it?

Now I can't tell what version of Mad World i like better. I think I have to go with the TFF one because that's the original, but you know, some times songs can be better than the original. I've heard many very good versions of 'It's all over now baby blue', my fave being Them's version.

the new dandy warhols, well it came out awhile, is great. i have it and love it more than the first.
the time i saw donnie darko i was in my bedroom and my roommate calls me on my cell phone from her room to ask if i or someone else had turned the shower on because she hadn´t and it was on. i said no. she said well who did. freaked out we ran to the bathroom and realized the shower had turned on by itself. we called the cops we were so fucking scared. so were they. i never finished the movie. that shit freaked me out. sorry i hate punctuation i am really lazy

Showers turning themselves on, now this is some good Paxacidus material! Stuff you can't make up. Reminds me of when I saw the scene in Poltergeist when someone walks in and all these chairs are stacked on top of each other. I believe ghosts exist, that they happen, although I've never come across them personally.

Aw, BB isn't letting me review the thread just now, but it was something like "proves people like a bit of peace now and then". I couldn't agree more. Somewhere along the Brit Pop DJing way, I've realized I've begun to neglect quieter music in favor of the immediate THRILL of POP or PUNK...I miss quiet music, I really do. I used to be able to listen to a lot of quieter music. Recently I downloaded The Damned's "Curtain Call" while in search of their more raw and energetic punk stuff, and when I heard that song I thought "wow, I have really missed quiet, contemplative music."

I've only begun to come to terms with the fact that there is no longer a British indie chart as there was throughout my formative years. Give me another year, and I promise I'll get over it, ha ha.

I've pretty much come to a dead end with the late 70's/early 80's obscure stuff...this guy I'd been trading with finally sent me his last batch of stuff, and I mean to go any further than this, I'd just be spending a load of money I don't even have to chase down iffy records that may not even be any good. So I've dedicated myself to new music from now on. Well, I still love Coldplay, but I realize that's not enough. Just you watch when summer comes along...I'm determined to have a whole new roster of new bands/stuff I'm nuts about, just give me time...
