I am hanging out in SoHo drinking coffee and rereading Oscar Wilde. It is quite a nice way to spend the day. Especially when I know I don't have anywhere to go except back to London. Meaning? I am on vacation from London. Meaning? I am on vacation from paradise? Meaning? I am a fucking lucky bastard.

I hung out with Svanja and les enfants terribles yesterday. Svenja looks amazing. better than ever. She does not have the shape of a mom at all. I saw her jeans were 30 waist and 34 length. Shit. Hot mama.

I am babysitting the 7 month old tonight while the rest of the family goes to a Christmas show. She is just getting to be mobile and skoots along the ground on her bum. She is quite a sweeetheart and i am saying my prayers that I will not lose her somewhere downtown.

Tonight I get to see Shanta who apparantly is a CFO of a company. More surprises from a girl who has dated a rock star and worked as a waitress in a Parisian Pizza Hut. Can't wait to hug her.

I went to the WTC. Pretty scary place. It is a six story high pile of rubble. There are still signs pointing to it, and people stand around crying and gawking. I don't have the stomach for that shit and so I ran down to a nearby park to stare at Ellis Island where my grandparents came to the USA and also the Statue of Liberty, a generous present from les francais

Okay that's enough for now the meter is running on this mf.

I am in Brooklyn a few blocks away from the birthplace of Henry Miller. I am chilling with Shanta, who looks great and lives in a very cool converted Tootsie Roll factory.

Brooklyn is very strange. I find it hard to describe. Its like a city of 4 million people who want to live in Manhatten but can't afford it. So they get as close as they can. There is very little beauty in Brooklyn, and so the people have to create it themselves. With Art. And modernity. Every block looks the same in Brooklyn. And there are in fact a lot of trees, but none of them look so healthy. It's not London. And I miss her already. And she misses me. She is calling.

Today I will write all day and drink all night. I do it every day. I am writer and a drinker. I am happy. Happy enough to die happy. In Brooklyn.

heres a question for you Pax Acidus?

Paris v. London, who wins?

I'm going to London in a week! Right after McCuthceon's fondue party I'm hopping on a plane and heading to Camden Town for a New Year's Eve Moulin Rouge costume party.

Paris v. London? hmm... I've been to London a lot more recently(last 5 years), and I actually have a lot of friends there, so . I dont think any of my friends are left in Paris. Paris is a lot prettier and has a better literary history. But theres no dog shit on the sidewalk in London. Much more of a sentimental connection to Paris, I think. Because of the language Paris feels more foreign (which for me is a good thing). London is just that one linguistic step closer to the United States...

yep Paris. Paris wins for me.

Paris versus London?

After 7 years in America I could get excited about Paraguay.

If I had to choose I would take Paris. Its not a tough decision. A three bedroom apartment near the Jardin de Luxembourg.

I will have it one day.

This has to do with two or three posts. I didn’t know where to put it.
Your stories make me think of my stories, so even though the jury is not deliberating on the subject, I’ll go ahead.
I’ve been to London only once. It was to meet the hubby who was already there. I flew out of . . . I think Atlanta – the most god awful airport in this country – I’m certain. I was seated in my window seat, well drugged and ready to snooze when an elderly couple got on. Apparently they had thought they were sitting next to each other but ended up with the aisle in between them. So they ask for volunteers to exchange seats; I volunteer. I get seated beside this very overweight Brit. He’s telling me his name and all this crap. And I’m telling him that I’m going to see my husband; we’re newly wed, essentially I’m really not interested. The guy went on telling me about something concerning the British equivalent of a truck stop / mall – I don’t know that I’ve ever seen one of these things, but I know from his description that I don’t want to. He would not shut up. I kept fighting off sleep – my southern mantra in my head – “You must be polite to strangers, you must be polite to strangers” It was a really bad flight!

I did see the elderly couple again in the train station; they smiled and said thanks. It was a warm fuzzy do-gooder moment.

The return to London was fun though. We had spent the whole day on the trains, and it was close to three in the morning when we got back. We, of course, had no hotel, we don’t plan well when we travel – I had also lost the address of our flat in Criccieth by the time we arrived there, and then once we reached it, (thanks to the fact that everyone there seems to know one another and are really kind to stupid Americans) we almost burned it down by grilling on a make-shift hibachi, -- Of course, Jack, we had been drinking –Captain Morgan’s, so tell your friend he’s right – alcohol and fire don’t mix. On second thought, we didn’t catch anything on fire, just smoked it up a bit, and we laughed our asses off, so tell him to fuck off if he can’t learn to laugh.

Anyway, in London we went from cheap seedy hotel to cheap seedy hotel, and there were no rooms. Finally we ended up in front of this swanky sky scraping joint, and my man in true man fashion refuses to go in and try for a room, so I, wearing his wool stocking cap, my faded corduroy coat, and no bags, they’re outside being protected by the hubby, go in. There were only young beautiful well dressed men there – at three or four in the morning – they smelled really good, too. I’m sure I didn’t. So of course they had a room, which we couldn’t afford, so we charged it. Our room was awesome!! We had silk curtains and sheets and the most heavenly, woodsy smelling bath gel. I have never enjoyed a shower or a bed so much in my whole life. So I know little of London, but I thoroughly enjoyed one night there. Paris, is well, you know!

So it's official. Paris is the city of Pax Acidus. The dream is a three bedroom flat on Boulevard St. Germain for Pax Acidus- Sloth, Kyle, McCutcheon drinking and writing and trying to get girls to kiss us. Not a bad way to get old and die.

Kyle I'm home. I'd give you my number here but can't remember it. I think it's 262.377.8828 and my cell (which is still with the airlines-lost) is 206.730.3903. But fuck it baby, I'm home. Let the good times roll. I want to come to Chicago. Lynn is going down for the day and could drop me off.

The thing is my dad just got a tv the size of a movie screen and I want to watch the Packers on it.... couldn't get tickets, anyone have Packer tickets????? I know they have been sold out from before the day I was born. Man you have to love the Pack. I went to a Seahawks game and it was half full and people were eating sushi in the stands and no one was drunk. Now I love sushi, but there is a time and place for everything in the world and poor Mike Holmgren left football heaven madness for polite applause.

Oops back to you Kyle. I seem to be all over the place on this post, hitting all the threads, don’t forget Boxing Day as well. It will be super.

Maybe that is why it is taking me sooooo long to finish the two novels? That or the fact I have the occasional flair to miss a few days here and there. At least I type fast. Haha.
