Do things get worse...I didn't win the lottery. they're going to say eminem shot those kids but do you know who is responsible. The media. And the best thing about eminem is that he has used them to make his fortune. Genius. Anyways i just found out the girl that dragged me to california is now living in Seattle. it's a small fucking world. No wonder we end up shoting each other. anyways jack how are you.

Buddha statues that date back 1500 years are being blown up with dynamite by the Taliban (I believe that is what they call themselves) of Afghanistan. The Taliban are predominately Muslim, very conservative Muslim, and they believe the statues are misrepresenting them. Despite the cries of the Buddhists, the dissuading of Israelis, and even the attempt to purchase the statues by some group in NYC, the cries have all gone unheard. Can you believe that? They're blowing these 150 foot tall marble relics of peace sky fucking high. What a shame.

How evil do you have to be to blow up statues of Buddha? Fundamentalists suck!

"Instead of introducing Sharia laws," says Shamil Beno, "we need to establish some fundamental values like, for instance, what's cited on the American dollar, 'In God We Trust.'"

"IT IS COMPASSION RATHER THAN THE CONCEPTS OF JUSTICE THAT CAN KEEP US FROM BEING UNJUST TO OUR FELLOW MAN"

IF THESE PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT THEY'RE DOING RIGHT - IT IS NOT FOR ME TO JUDGE, REGARDLESS OF MY PERSONAL BELIEFS, KNOWING THAT IN THE END, WHAT WAS MEANT TO HAPPEN DID FOR THE REASONS THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO, AND THOSE IN ACTION WILL RECEIVE IN RETURN THE SAME ENERGY THEY TRANSMIT - GO AHEAD AND BLOW THEM UP, IT'S ASHAME, BUDDHA LOVES THEM REGARDLESS OF THEIR ACTIONS, BUT IN LIFE YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW - GOOD LUCK BOYS, BUDDHA BLESSES YOU!

*sigh* the meek shall inherit the Earth, but the greedy shall contest the will. And win. Then the violent shall go unto the homes of the greedy and beat them with sticks, forcing the greedy to relinquish what they rightfuly stole from the meek. The morally upstanding shall see this and decree the greedy should have the Earth, for they have the best lawyers and could argue the panties off a nun, and besides, the meek are too cool to put their case, because arguing is a waste of energy. The meek, being meek, will end up with bugger all.
In the end, what does it matter? Didn't Huey (my pet name for Buddah) teach the virtue of non-attachment anyway? Let the statues go, finish your rice, then wash your bowl.

So I'll go to your church and stick a couple sticks of dynamite up the virgins ass. KABOOOOOOMMMM!!!!

But anyways, you're right about the statues and how Buddha's premise was unattachment from all things, so in all, the relics that have been reduced to dust shouldn't be drooled upon I guess. But where do you draw the line?

If that's the case, then lets initiate genecide and slaughter all Buddhists to the last man (or woman), because they are trying to release themselves from this life anyway, right? So cutting off all their heads would be honoring their beliefs, wouldn't it?

C'mon, you can twist this into making sense if you want, but it's still wrong. It's possible to look upon artifacts made by one's ancestors without "drooling over them". And besides, those statues belonged to everyone, destroying them was a crime against the world. And as far as I know, Buddhists do not support theft of thy brother's possessions, just a lack of attachment to them.

Myx-

Yeah, I personally agree with you that it is wrong. BUT, in a Buddhist way, who cares? I bet for every 5 Buddhists there are 4 that just smiled and bowed before the mayhem.

I am personally appalled because I marvel at ancient relics. It's a damn shame because the statue that was about 180 foot tall was often considered the 8th wonder of the world.

If your're an advocate of preserving ancient relics or a Buddhist, then I guess this topic hit you in different manners.

Thank you Jack & myxilplyc, I almost responded to N8, but then thought I ought to wait, and the both of you made valid points that I was thinking of. This is a very ambigous subject - as historical artifacts & symbols of inner peace & harmony, though they are only material items, have a value, not of money, but of ideals & visions of a tranquil existence that they strive to radiate through millenniums of being, and being the novice historian that I am, as I stated in my first reply - it is ashame that these seemingly ignorant, unknowing people would want to blow up ancient symbols of peace, harmony & love,- while on the other hand, as you N8 & jack both have stated correctly it is about non-attachment, and that they are only material items, but to me it's the fact that people are people, at some point we ALL need to realize that there are no real differneces between us other than the ones we think up in our minds, and that don't really exist, out of our ego's need to be something were not, I am no better than you or anyone else, as they are no better than you, or I.

I do not believe that I know everything, or am right about everything, nor do I believe that any one race is any more superior than any one other, we all have our places here on Earth, efficiency, diversification and adaptibility are what life is about, I give what I am, and take in what I need as long as I'm open minded enough at the time, if not I will receive it next time around, but just because I have not fully comprehended something or am ignorant or conceded enough to think that because I don't believe it no-one should and that its not RIGHT - I don't go around blowing them up!!

so Here is a question for you N8, what if everyone went around blowing up things just because they didn't like them or believe in a so-called "inferior" races culture.....

....hmmmmm...Seig heil!

I flirted with Buddhism for while... back before I gave up on religion all together. I still consider it the best of all faiths, although personally now I'm just a bitter, pseudo-intellectual agnostic with a perverted mind and a taste for intoxicating substances.

If for some reason any of you wonder why I despise organized religion, just take a look at those responsible for the subject of this thread, the Taliban. Organized religion attracts the ignorant, and seeks to make those who follow even more ignorant. Intelligence is not a prerequisite for membership; in fact, it's frowned upon. "Don't think, just have FAITH." Ignorance is the virtue that makes senseless acts of stupidity such as blowing up 2000 year old works of art seem normal.
