Definitely have to have a thread for this here. For those not in the know, this band named themselves after a pretend band that appeared in a New Order video. They are from Las Vegas and they are an anglophile Brit-Popper's dream. This is their brand new sophomore album "Sam's Town".
I'm STILL a sucker for them. And they still remind me of all the teenagers I waited with for three hours to see them at Bumbershoot 2 years ago. When we finally got in to the venue, it was so fucking packed. I did get a bit pissed off and wedged my way in front of a teenage girl to see the band. She was too frightened of me to protest. Hey, I can be a fucking teenager too! That crowd was packed so tight, it wasn't like I'd gone up to the back of her and wedged my way in it was more like it was her against me in this tight mass of a crowd, very claustrophobic. No way out.

I think it's rather interesting too that the singer seems to have grown a bit of a beard. Talk about nipping his status as teenage sex symbol in the bud. I respect that. Who wants to be a pretty boy in a successful rock and roll band?
Also Morrissey has said he likes these guys. I think I already said that here before, though.
Sometimes the vocals actually sound like Robert Smith if you can believe that - on "Bones" but that's one of my least fave tracks on this.

Anyway one thing I really like about this group is the way the singer will unexpectedly change the melody just a tad here and there. It's actually very skillful.

NO, it's too late. I'm too drunk and the sun is literally shining in my eyes from outside. The morning sun on a clear morning in Seattle at 8 AM. And The Killers album kills me, as it should do. I particularly like "Uncle Johnny" to be honest, that riff is so goddamn British, and the bass dares a few Duran Duran dips here and there. I don't care if the whole world thinks I'm stupid I'm still a sucker for the Killers.

Alarming.
Sometimes the Killers sound like the Alram and some Killer songs come far too close to 'The Stand.' Maybe this is the way it is supposed to be. Maybe instead of the Eagles, maybe the Killers look like the Alarm. On purpose.

Religion reference? Really? Where do you hear that? I only hear it when the guy sings that the fictional guy's mom in the song is a bitch who keeps trying to make him pray. I doubt these guys are Christian rockers. Is there a certain song that reminds you of "Stand"? I'm honestly interested to know, because if you can pin down a certain song then I'll d/l "Stand" and see if I can see the comparison myself.
Okay well actually there is also the part where he says "he doesn't look a thing like Jesus"...but my point is I don't get the feeling they're Christians, not like the Alarm might be.

Alright, alright, I admit it isn't as good as Final Fantasy, far from it, and it isn't as good as their first album. But I do like some of it a great deal. I walked in to this store last night to buy some new CD-R's and they were playing "When You Were Young" and I just love that song. I know some folks on the other board had said that it sounded like Meatloaf when it gets all quiet and he sings "the devil's water it ain't so sweet", etc. I think that is so fucking funny! I find Meatloaf terribly funny, I'm afraid. Which reminds me - one time I found out the name of Meatloaf's first band and it made me laugh out loud. Popcorn something. Can't recall now. There was a funny picture with that as well. If I wasn't so drunk I would be bothered to look it up. Maybe later.
