Marky went record shopping!!!

Post by marky »

I went record shopping today! Why? Because my friend had dragged me to record shops yesterday and I remembered something I saw there that I didn't buy and I started to realize it was pretty rare and I immediately had to go and see if they still had it and they did, I was just lucky.

Anyway I really like it actually, it's this LP by the Tapes called Party, either that or the name of the band is Tapes Party. They look really British on the cover but when you put it on they sound like they're either American or Canadian. It's from 1980 and is some really fucking cool herky jerky weird post-punk, kindof like Gang of Four a little bit, but only a little. I can't even find them in my Trouser Press book! I wonder where the hell they were from?

I also got Shriekback's "Oil & Gold" just because it was pretty cheap and I haven't heard that record in a long, long, long time. I bought it when it came out and liked it a lot, but then some friends of mine used to play it about 10 years ago. So this will kindof be my third go-round with it.

I also got a Style Council live album that for some insane reason I don't actually have yet. It completely passed me by I think, I can't figure it out. It's called "Home & Abroad" which I wonder if that is the same name as their video...it's all kindof hazy but I still don't understand why I don't think I have this album until now.

Anyway the guy at the counter was really nice and I told him I have all Style Council stuff in the whole world except that. Which isn't really true, because I can't claim to have all bootlegs in the world.

What else? Oh yeah I even used my credit card and went crazy and bought the new Bob Dylan and that Vashti Bunyan thing I wanted to try.

I am celebrating because I found a job, I guess. That's my excuse for the financial damage I've done to myself.

But to be fair, the vinyl didn't really cost very much, I got the Tapes Party thing for only $6, a real bargain considering what it's probably worth online. And the other records were $7 and $8. It's only the CD's where I feel like I probably shouldn't have spent the money but oh well, life is sweet. It wasn't like I did a whole $100+ spending spree like the old days.

Okay but this Vashti Bunyan thing is just too girly for me. Sorry I mean I'm a feminist and all that but this is just way too girly for me. It's like...I didn't know she was a female singer anyway and it's got fucking flutes and shit, and I just don't think it's my thing. Oh well.

Wow you wouldn't believe how easily I peeled off the wrapping for the new Bob Dylan CD. Like you know how if it's been sitting in the shop a long time then you have a real hard time peeling that stupid see-through sticker off the spine of a CD? Well this one came right off real fast, faster than any I've had. I'm a new CD sticker virgin until peeling this one off! What fun!

Fuck I can't figure out why I don't have this goddamn Style Council live album yet. I can't figure out why it slipped by me. I can't fucking figure it out. I'm serious, I don't understand. I DON'T UNDERSTAND!! WHAT AN OVERSIGHT ON MY PART! JESUS!

Don't you understand I have every other Style Council thing in the world but this? WHY? What about that live video they had that I rented like 5 times? I should have bought it somehow. It wasn't the same as this live album because it was called Far East & Far Out. Yeah, I have to get that. Soon.

Yeah actually I can buy it very easily for a reasonable price because I know a guy who sells videos, I've known about him for years, he's got the most amazing stuff. I knew him from when there weren't even any computers. Which I guess was over ten years ago.

Here's his website:

Fuck, I can't believe the version of "The Whole Point of No Return" on this live album. Wow. They really changed it, a full band and everything, not just him solo.
