"English Mead"

Okay curiosity got the better of me and I decided to try this type of alcoholic drink I found at a store near here. It's called "Mead". There were a few different brands but I chose the one with the highest alcohol content (12.5%) because I dreaded sweetness. It's made out of fermented honey, and it's slightly more expensive than my usual wine price range, but I figured what the hell, you only live once.

So the brand I got says "English Mead" on it "England's Oldest Drink" and the label goes on to say that it was drunk by Kings & Queens blah blah blah they give you the impression this drink goes back a ways. Right?

So when I got up to the register the guy asked me if I'd ever tried it, he said him and his friends were so curious about it but had never tried it. I laughed. I said "If it's too sweet, I don't think I'll be able to take it"

But it's not too sweet. Not nearly as bad as the raspberry rum I had which I will never EVER drink again as long as I live.

It's fun to smell it first, before drinking. It's kindof got this straw quality to it, along with the honey. I wouldn't want to drink it all the time, but it's nice. Like white wine with a twist of honey, really.

Cool thing about Mead is it came in a reduced size bottle, therefore, maybe I CAN save myself a hangover tomorrow! GOD LET"S HOPE! I mean, Nietzsche let's hope!

hehe yes - bottles of mead are usually smaller.

I just wanted to share my wisdom gained at a price: if you try French Mead you will be sorry. SO Sweet - YUCK! Now there is an American type I'd like to try that claims to be dry, but I'm afraid. If you have to buy this stuff, much better to go with the brand that says "ENGLISH MEAD". Sure, it's a small bottle, smaller than a wine bottle, and it costs a pretty penny but not as much as my favourite champagne when it goes on sale, so we're well within reason here. Anyway just don't buy the French mead, okay? It's sickly sweet. Only trust the English Mead. It's a small bottle, etc. but worth it every once in awhile.

Also it still has the highest alcohol content of any of the meads at the store.

I like dry drinks. I don't like sweet drinks.

Which it doesn't necessarily have to have a high alcohol content to be dry I don't mean that. It's a taste thing. I wouldn't dream of drinking champagne that wasn't dry. Except for my one favourite brand, which sometimes goes on sale for $15 at Safeway and when it does, I have been known to indulge. IT is fucking amazing, it kindof has this peach flavour to it, it is fucking orange! You think I lie! This champagne is ORANGE! It comes from California and is sooo good. But normally I don't buy it cause it costs $18 a bottle. But when it goes on sale for $15 then I have been known to indulge.

I can't remember the winery right now, but it has a gold label that is orange and gold and it says "Riche" at the bottom.
