Bobby G sit next to me.

I was at a party recently and we had to say who would we like to sit next to on a plane ride. The person had to be living. Most people were saying famous writers and all that, but I found it a bit boring. I said Bobby Gillespie. A close second would be Irvine Welsh.

"You know what they say? Behind every great song there's a great pill" Bobby Gillespie, 1994.

There is a Bobby G interview in the latest NME.

Apparently he was so paranoid last year that Justine Frischman had to feed him soup to keep him alive (although he denies this).

He also asks the pertinent question... (paraphrase)

"How come our civil rights are being stolen from us and you guys never say anything? To you the worst part of September 11th was that you had to wait another 3 months to interview the Strokes again."

Other good tidbits as well.

The Scream Team has a new album coming out. He does a Lee Hazelwood (best American pop writer ever) cover with Kate Moss.

And just to make it clear, when asked who they'd like to sit next to on an airplane, no one at the party said bin Laden. But it makes me think. If given the chance to kill bin Laden today, let's say he was sat in front of you and you had a loaded gun would you pull the trigger and blow his head off?

...creating a martyr would not solve anthing...but I'd probably think up a few creative ways to get him to reveal any upcoming plots...

"The New York Stock Exchange wanted to use Movin' On Up to advertise the post-September 11 rebuilding programme. We just said, 'Nah, we don't agree with your politics.' They were gonna pay us a lot of money for it, but we just thought it's blood money. The money that is made there every day is through slavery and exploitation. I don't mind it being on a TV ad for Telewest, which it is. Cable TV's all right, not mass-murdering capitalists." -Bobby G from the great music mag MOJO August 2002.

"Whatever it takes to make a great fucking rock 'n' roll record, we'll do it."- Bobby G on The Scream Team- On The Bus Philo.
