Marky you hear of this? There is a comp coming out soon of all the stuff he produced.

Though you might like to know.

Well yes I heard of it, in fact I was mentioning Martin Hannett on the Happy Mondays thread here last night and that's why I mentioned him because I heard of this compilation on the other board. But the weird thing is I didn't see that you had started this thread until today. So either I was very drunk or something weird happened with Paxacidus. Probably the former.

But it's not actually ALL the stuff he produced, in fact it's only a mere fraction. Yeah I think it's really great because there were two Martin Hannett compilations out before this one and they have become absolutely impossible to get now. I can't imagine how much money they would go for on ebay or whatever.

Now remember that some of these tracks are likely *not* the versions you may have heard of these songs (for example U2's "11 O'Clock Tick Tock", which I bought the 12" of just because I wanted to hear the Hannett version and it is fabulous). In many cases there would be a Hannett version and then another non-Hannett version. That's why if you're buying these things separately on vinyl you have to be very careful. O.M.D. and Kitchens of Distinction are another examples of where there were 2 versions, one Hannett and one not.

Really happy to see the Nico track on there, too! I think that is really one of his best things, he makes it sound very Joy Divisiony, that one. Also when it says "John Cooper Clarke" or "The Invisible Girls" that means Hannett himself played on the track (usually bass, but he was fantastic with synthesizers too).

That reminds me that on the John Lydon website he calls it a "Message Bored". I tell you something I still like that guy. Reading his book has not been disillusioning at all.

The second Spherical Objects album is a milestone in Manchester music history. It's called "Elliptical Optimism". If you can find it on vinyl for less than $150 you better get it while you can, baby.

Well the first Peel Session by James was 1983 I'm told, I'll have to look at the tracks...wait. No, none of them were called "Really Hard", I'm afraid. I only know one other really early non-released track by them and now that I've dug it out of my VHS cassette tapes, no it isn't called "Really Hard" either, sorry. I'm disappointed.

Anyway, there's always Prefab Sprout.

Also wasn't Benny Hill a really crap TV show? That's what I was thinking the other day for no reason, how crap that show was. All this other British TV that could have been shown on American television and all we got when I was young was Benny Hill episode after Benny Hill episode after Benny Hill episode. Blech. Get past the birds and what have you got? Not much.
