Well, finally I got round to watching videos which is one key way I stay sober on weeknights. So I got Scorsese's "After Hours" from 1985, recommended to me by a NY friend, and features a lot of New York scenes I'm told. Very good, completely engrossing film. I have a few complaints, but not many. And any movie that manages to have Rosanna Arquette, Terri Garr AND Catherine O'Hara in it is already way ahead of the game as far as I'm concerned. Those three in ONE film? We're too lucky.
So I also got The Singing Detective as Tommy had recommended so long ago when I wasn't in a position to watch movies at all. But I never forgot about it. So I got it but the fucking DVDs would not work in my goddamn player!!! (and yes I have a multi-region player so don't blame it on that) I am not lying I couldn't even get to the menu, it was just the Warner Bros. logo, the BBC logo and that was it. The end. The numbers on the DVD player read 0:00 after that no matter what I did. And what was so irritating was the third CD with all the extras worked fine. But how can you watch the extras without the film itself? And I'd already had a bad day in several other respects. So I got them to give me another copy and we will see Mon & Tues. how it works out.
Stupid machines.
