U.S. Open - Tennis

Post by Myke115 »

I've begun watching the Open at Flushing Meadows in New York. It's like the antithesis of Wimbledon. Colorful outfits. Rowdy fans. More exciting to watch. And damn, Agassi gives me hope that my body doesn't have to die past 30.

I'm tempted to drive up there this weekend and see at least a match even if it's an offcourt one. Hell, it's just to damned far.

Sharapova

McCutcheon touched her at the sound check, and now he's in love.
If I'm making any sense, then I haven't made myself clear.

Yeah. He's definitely in LUV with Sharapova after that. I was heading down the road this afternoon in my car and got a call from him wanting to know what the score of her match was. I didn't know but called back later when I was watching to tell him and he was sitting at a pub himself watching the match. He later called back all pissed that Sharapova had lost to the rather prissy Mary Pierce. A good excuse to down more Guinness anyway.

I question the veracity of the touch, but understand why he's in love with her anyway...

Excellent going on tonight between Jennifer Capriati and Serena Williams. I so want Capriati to win. I am un-fond of Serena. Doesn't help that she's been dressing like a dominatrix.

Signs of the apocalypse....

A favourite comic of mine in England (Viz: if you were wondering) had a big picture of Tim Henman on it, prior to the recent Wimbledon. Underneath in tabloid style large lettering was the headline, "We're backing Tim." Underneath that, in small print, was the sentence. "all the way to the quarter finals."

Fuck me. He is in the semi.

Even if he wins the final in straight sets, tennis is still a girls game.

Fucking capriati just lost the first set 6-0. Bageled, as they call it. And still, being a girl, she could kick that guest Tommy's ass playing with her off hand. Rugby skills or no.

Getting your ass kicked at tennis means that you have played against someone who is better than you at hitting a bouncy ball with some string and metal. Getting your ass kicked in rugby means you have had to take a trip to a medical facility to make the bleeding stop. There is a difference. Even at my advanced age, I still fancy my chances against Jennifer Capriati. Those Williams girls though........

Federer is the MJ of tennis. I felt bad for Lleyton but what the hell could he do.
