Mark and I are going to see the Music and the Vines tonight. I wonder who else is going to be there? Supergrass?

Craig Nichols (or whatever his name is I forget) is a total nut. He's like if Bobby Gillespsie and Damon Albarn had a mentally frustrated baby who tried to do an impression of Kurt Cobain and failed in everything except melodrama.

I am listening to the Highly Evolved disc right now. They rock it pretty good.... even if it's mostly just a put on. How many times can you seriously knock over your microphone stumbling drunk during one set? C'mon now. Either stand up and sing or fall over and pass out. You can't do both well. Someone put alcohol in his friggin test tube as a fetus. This is not a brave new world. The song Mary Jane is as good as any teenage rock ballad track ever produced by anyone.

The opening band The Music was really good as well. Seeing a Ramone-quality freak of nature dancing like David Byrne is worth the price of admission alone.

When the rest of the band go through puberty they might have something high quality to offer us. None of them look like thy've ever been laid yet.

Well, I can't say I came away with a better opinion of the Vines, but I did come away with an even better opinion of The Music. They seemed to have all the passion the Vines lacked. I agree with Ooh about the singer. It all seemed very controlled despite the fact that it was supposed to LOOK like he was out of control. And I still don't think he was really drunk. He was drinking a pop! I saw it!

But Ooh, something I want to understand: they really do rock out more on the CD than they did live, right? Because I just thought they'd rock out more than they did.

Also this has got to be the only gig I can ever remember being at alongside a majority of teenagers! That was just really weird. I mean YOUNG kids! Am I getting old yet? Sheesh.

I saw The Vines and The Music play at a shithole in NJ a few months ago. I thought The Music were great and Craig Nichols' behavior was a bit contrived. He really wants to be a wild rock star. Their Rolling Stone cover summed it up perfectly: he was being held back by the rest of the band like he was some wild animal.

The best part of the show: their Ms. Jackson cover.

The worst part: The venue was completely dry.

Has anyone heard Aerogramme? Good? Shit?

Primal Scream are playing 3 night at Irving Plaza! Yay!

I did give Aerogramme a chance once, but didn't like them much. I can't remember what they sound like now, though. Doesn't mean someone else wouldn't like it.

I'd like to express my happiness with this double CD I got recently called "100% British Mod:The Most Definitive UK Mod Collection Ever". It's got a whopping 40 bands I've never heard before from roughly '78-'82. While punk, post-punk and new wave successively held the public's attention, these bands opted instead for a more 60's pop sound. McC, I really think you'd like some if not most of this.
