The band getting all the hype here, even playing two dates in a row is new Scottish phenomenal Franz Ferdinand. I know they started a war, but are they any good. In a review I read all the right band names were dropped. It was said they sound like Styx, I mean Strokes, it said the sounded like James Gang, I mean Gang of Four, and they sound like Ricky Martin, I mean the Rapture.

My bro likes them so much he compiled a whole mp3 of them. I got it if anyone wants it. I did actually listen to it once. Did nothing for me. I am hooked on Ween's White Pepper. I get an 'F' for my musical taste so far this year. Ween is like a band that South Park kids would like.

I remember Ween in the early 90's. They were very weird.

Note to Julien: How's the weather in Paris? I also heard on the radio that Gordon Gano (sp?) the lead singer from the Violent Femmes recorded with a French band. Have you heard this? Do you know the name of them? Gordon is one of my all time favs and he grew up only a few blocks from me, until I moved away at age 2, I didn't grow up too much plus he is older by some years, but anyway. You would think I'd be able to spell his name. But this is McCutcheon writing this. Any infor on that Julien would ge great. Oh wait this is the internet, maybe I could do a search a la Marky? I'll give it a try.

The weather in Paris is bad. It's raining. Well, actually, there is always one way to enjoy the weather in Paris, wether it's fine or not. I haven't heard about Gordon Gano, nor
the "Violent Femmes" band, but i'll give it a try too, it sounds interesting.

Anyway, talking about enjoying Paris, last week I went to the Batofar to ear the Freeform five djing, it was so great. Check out their single "Eeaow" and "Perspex sex" (the NRG remix : http://www.nuloop.com/Details.php?arti=17132 ), fucking great.

Can we clarify a little who we're talking about here...specifically Sloth...were you saying your brother likes/you have a CD of/indie Strokes etc. about Papas Fritas or Franz Ferdinand? Obviously I haven't heard either of them, but I'll check em out.

I hope you mean it about the CD exchange, McC.

Yes I do. And I got the Franz 12" Take Me Out and it rocks and is slutty and cool and the b-side is a remix of same song my Morgan Giest which is really cool because they did a remix of my friends from Germany's band Klee, and when Martino came to visit he brought me the records, and it was funny because Martino was like, here I am at the air port and the lady asks if all the luggage is his and has he packed it and he had a package for Pax Acidus and was like, "Oh god (except in German of course) I hope that McCutcheon fucker isn't going to land me in jail for the rest of my life."

Marky if you can stay sober long enough than yes I would love to do a CD exchange with you. I still am so in love with Heart of Glass non disco version.

Thankfully, sobriety is not required for doing CD exchanges, my friend! I read today Franz Ferdinand are coming here in March. Took a listen to them, didn't sound bad. Definitely more interesting than Interpol who strike me as a little too dour and overwrought at times.

I also took a listen to the forthcoming single from The Beta Band off the BBC Radio One website and wow, was I impressed! I kinda thought they'd stick with their hippy/folky/hiphop kind of thing, but no, they are onto something else. "Guitars" isn't the first thing you think of when you think of them, but they managed to get this really nice raw guitar sound like JD or Interpol. I was just blown away. Can't wait for the end of April for the album. Better damn well be no delay between the import and domestic releases!

I got your phone message about the Chic album. Unfortunately I wouldn't know whether that particular one is any good or not. I haven't gotten past the 70's with them just yet, but I'm considering it. Especially if I could find the 1980 one cheap on vinyl and hey! that's a great idea come to think of it, just get it on vinyl. The most recent thing I've got of them is this album they did with singer Norma Jean about '78 (she sang on Chic's first album then left for a solo career but Edwards/Rodgers still collaborated with her on her first album, just called "Norma Jean"). It's not too bad, has a couple good dance tracks, but still can't match Chic's first self-titled LP or 1979's "Risque" for me.
