World Cup 2002

Post by martino »

thanks for the information about the upcoming match! didn't catch it anywhere else!

i am in a pre-endgame rambling mood so i am turning this bb thread into my own blog, for which i would like to apologize, folks. i am all paranoid because i can't sleep. it is 10:15 AM, i was at the honsellbrücke party until 6 AM with my lovely wife, my best drinking pal orbiwan kenorbi, and beautiful kendra -- a group that turns heads, believe me. the location was fantastic, a shed amidst a junkyard in the east harbor section of town:

but the dj was shite. pretentious undanceble bullshit. speaking of dreams ooh, it would be great to have one of you guys dj a party over here to teach such motherfuckers a lesson.

so in about three hours the endgame will start. the sun is shining, i think i'll go out for a run, maybe i'll place some last minute bets. i hope that my team doesn't make a fool of itself by playing sloppy, boring or defensive. the german team sounds astonishingly confident even though they will be without ballack who was responsible for the majorities of goals to date so they are lacking the offensive resources of the brazlians. i doubt that goalie olli can save the day.

wish all of you fun watching...

i enjoyed the game and so did just about everyone else here. the disappointment was big after the 1:0, and changed to resignation at the 2:0. but sadness at losing is mixed with positive feelings about having lost honorably, about an unexpectedly good team, and above all about a phantastic world cup.

it was a great afternoon, with cars honking, people with german, brazilian, turkish flags: not the triumphialism i dislike but a celebration of a great tournement. people on the streets had smiles on their faces and there was a warm, friendly feeling to it all that we don't often have in germany.

i will take a while to take it all in and the post-games depression will surely come, but there is always the euro cup in portugal in two years and the next world cup in four years to look forward to. my team will still be young and fresh in 2006 and it will be great to host the world. see y'all there!

I must be tired because I almost let the 2004 comment slip. But I wouldn't be McCutcheon if I did. The next World Cup is 2006 idiot! (jest for effect)But we could watch the European Cup in 2004.

Oh yeah... and at least I didn't drop a bomb on a wedding yesterday. Now that it idiotic. As if we needed any more reasons to fear marriage.

i was at town hall yesterday with 50,000 others. the crowd was more enthusiastic than it was when germany won the world cup in '90.

rudi is now officially my world's favorite high-prole. everybody loves him. mind you, this is the country that has hated most of its national trainers. rudi looked drunk and tired and then started to cry for joy. ballack had a black eye. they had been partying in yokohama until seven in the morn and then went straight to the airport.

I'm glad everyone seems in good spirits after this World Cup. Everyone except the Italians and Spanish.

I thought the final was a little dull to watch at first but it was the way the Germans had to play to keep the Brazilians in check and off their skillful stride. But it didn't last. The proud white 'Mannschaft' couldn't contain The brilliant gold of Brazil's 'O Jogo Bonito' amd my good buddy Ronaldo got two goals to tie Pele with 14 goals in the in World Cup finals. And if he can stay injury free the phenome will back for more in 2006- where I already predict a rematch of Brazil-Germany again.

Big Ollie Kahn won the golden ball award, the first for a goal keeper, even though he couldn't stay perfect and flubbed a ball in the last match.

Korea won most entertaining award and it was a joy to see them play with so much finesse and flair.

And now it's time to move on. European Cup qualifications start in September.

what i meant to say was, i was at the town hall when the german team came to pay a visit right after landing from their japan-germany flight.

anyway, i know i am getting boring and i will shut up soon. but i did want to mention how very much i appreciate what matt henderson wrote in espn about germany, even though it is too kind, really...

I understand this article. Because even The Guardian- the rag of liberal London who backs Nick Horby, champagne socialists, and fancies itself free from the xenophobia that imprisons Britain, has stated during this World Cup that England's hate of Germany is the last expectable prejudice. But I have to ask, when he was ripping on Brazil, what's wrong with transvestites? Some of my best friends are transvestites- they have great shoes.
