Curly headed Guga Is a Gone-a
Seventh-seeded Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia shockingly dumped No. 1 seed and fan favorite Gustavo Kuerten of Brazil in straight sets in only 1 hour 32 minutes in their quarterfinal matchup at Arthur Ashe Stadium Thursday.
Kafelnikov, up 5-4, broke Kuerten's serve to win the first set, and then crushed the Brazilian crowd favorite in the second set, 6-0, in only 21 minutes. After the second-set debacle, Kuerten had a trainer come out to massage his left thigh, but it didn't seem to help. Kafelnikov won the first three games of the third set, 11 in a row in all, before Kuerten finally held at 0-3. Nevertheless, the one break of service in the second game of the set was enough for Kafelnikov, who now advances to the semifinals, where he awaits the winner of the match Thursday night between No. 18 Andy Roddick of the United States and No. 4 Lleyton Hewitt of Australia.

Lleyton wins and gets booed and Andy loses and cries. Roddick admitted his tantrum in the closing stages of his epic, five-set battle with Lleyton Hewitt cost him a place in the US Open semi-finals.
The American teenager blew his top after umpire Jorge Dias called one of his shots out in what turned out to be the final game of the match.
"You fight so hard against one of the best fighters in the world and a guy overrules on a ball that was in on the far side," said Roddick, who was beaten 6-7 6-3 6-4 3-6 6-4.
"I don't remember anything after that. I needed to put it out of my mind but it wasn't all gone.
I'm not going to take back what I said to him.
"That's the worst I've ever lost it on a tennis court. I'm disappointed in myself for letting it do that to me."
Roddick was handed a code violation for calling Dias an "absolute moron" in a tirade which included expletives.
"I'm not going to take back what I said to him. I meant it at the time," said the 19-year-old. "It was an absolutely pathetic call.
He even heaped more criticism on Dias in the after-match news conference.
"He said he saw it (the shot) was 100% out and if he said that he's a liar," said Roddick.
Hewitt's semi-final opponent will be Yevgeny the other well behaved Russian Kafelnikov, who defeated top seed Gustavo Kuerten.
The Russian put his triumph partly down to advice he had received from John McEnroe in the locker room.
"He told me I should serve and volley more and I thought I'd try it," said Kafelnikov. Thanks Johhny Mac.

I think Venus in Furs is the best women's tennis player of all time. It is still yet to be seen if she will become the best champion. What I mean is on pure talent and skill I believe her to be the best in the world ever. If she has the heart, drive, luck and fire of people like Martina and Billie Jean is yet to be tested.

Lleyton Hewitt has produced one of the most stunning performances in US Open history to crush four-time champion Pete Sampras in straight sets.
Playing in his first Grand Slam final Hewitt produced almost a perfect display of baseline tennis to roll Sampras 7-6 6-1 6-1.
Hewitt showed no fear against the Sampras serve that was lacking its usual venom, breaking him once in the first set, twice in the second and three times in the third to clinch victory.
Hewitt was unstoppable in the last two sets after winning the first in a tie-break while Sampras's game came apart as tried to find an answer to the Australian's blistering passing shots.
Hewitt came throught the one-sided affair with only 13 unforced errors while 13-time Grand Slam champion Sampras could not find the consistency of earlier matches and finished with 38.
Sampras, saved one match point but hit a volley long on Hewitt's next chance. Hewitt fell to the ground in disbelief, then shook hands with Sampras before embracing his coach Darren Cahill and girlfriend Kim Clijsters.
Hewitt was left stunned with his victory and said the reality of it had yet to sink in.
“It was a dream come true to play Pete in the final who is maybe the greatest player to have ever lived but I just believed in myself.�
“I was quietly confident going into the final but it is such a big occasion I was just waiting for the nerves to settle in.�
But if he was nervous he did not appear to be as he repeatedly ripped passing shots past Sampras.
“I don't know what to say, I got a little lucky out there, I was seeing the ball well.�
“I started to get in a kind of zone with the passing shots.�
Sampras said he felt powerless to stop a rampant Hewitt and predicted that he could have a career to match his own.
“He was unbelievable, I lost to a great champion,� said Sampras who also lost last year's final to Marat Safin.
“You are going to see Lleyton Hewitt for the next ten years like you saw me.�
"He was unbelievable. The kid is so quick it's unbelievable. Those legs -- I wish I had some of those legs."
Hewitt's victory comes after the most tumultuous two weeks of his career that saw the 20-year-old embroiled in a race row following his second round match against African American James Blake.
Hewitt, however shut out all the off-court drama for the rest of the tournament and gradually improved with each match.
He survived a tough five set match in the quarter-finals against Andy Roddick before coming out and blasting Yevgeny Kafelnikov off the court in the semis allowing the Russian to only win four games.
Sampras, in the toughest side of the draw, defeated former champions Pat Rafter, Andre Agassi and Marat Safin on his way to the final.

The only time I have ever watched the "refined sport" was back in the late 80's, early 90's. Ivan Lendl, Boris Becker, Pat Cash, a very young Michael Chang, a very young foxy Jennifer Capriati, a long haired named andre something or another, and boy those were great matches. Nothing beats a becker vs. lendl match.

being that i am from boston, i am so fucking glad the patriots won. a girlfriend of mine loved to screw the team. brady is foxey and if mccuthcheon said make out with him, he might never see me again. 8 years ago they were shit , boozers now they are winners, but still no packers.
