My Country Club has grass courts, if you ever make it back to Vancouver we'll go up there and pretend we're at Wimbledon. Then we can have some beers and you can try to pick up some trophy wives.

I know I should make a new heading .......

Last night, as a favour to a friend (who is Australian) I watched the last game of the NBA finals. Now I'm not going to debate which game is better. We all have our favourite flavours.....but fuck me, the last two minutes went on forever. There is nothing entertaining about a time out. I repeat, nothing. My favourite american sport is baseball. Lots of americans hate baseball because it is too slow. Yet they watch basketball, a 48 minute game, that last night took about 185 minutes to unfold. When I go to watch the reds I make a point of missing the opening pitch and the anthem, and normally get out in under three hours. (Usually because they have got spanked in short order)

Whatever happened to that movement to make racquet heads smaller and less powerfull? (like when they were made of wood and cat gut) I saw a thing about female tennis players last week: comparing the greats of yesteryear to the players of today. Did you know that Billie Jean King was only 5 foot 4? The Williams girls came in about 6 foot. Whats-is-face who is currently top of the pile is 6 foot 2. (I'm talking about the women here) Tennis is going the way of other sports (except football) and aligning itself with the freaks. The sad thing about tennis is, it doesn't have to do this. We would all love a return to the classic games of the seventies. When a womaniser with beautiful blue eyes could emerge from a hangover and win Wimbledon.

McCutcheon won wimbledon in the 70's? Wow. Now I don't feel so bad about those 6-0 sets.
