colorado is a burning inferno, HELP!

Post by ROSEMARY »

i am in loveland, colorado, the place i was born. population 500, now maybe 2,000. i come here every summer to help harvest my grandfather's wheat crop. harvest started 4 days ago. it is exhausting. we wake up at 4 am do the mechanicals on the colmbine and tractors, pick up parts, fix clutches, move equipment from farm to farm. today i drove a freightliner semi truck with a carriage of wheat, a 600 horsepower 1974 ford truck, a tractor with a plow and a truck carrying a twenty five foot reel across a two lane highway. there is no drinking or smoking anything it is all business. lunch on the side of the road in 100 degree heat.
a mile high altitude and the fires here are 30 miles away. i can see the flames above the towering stalks of corn and wheat. we forgot to bring water today so it has been a little rough.luckily, we stopped at 4pm and i am now at a crappy computer joint checking my e mail.
tom. i will go fishing in poudre lake for trout. finally , a break.

are you talking about the new one out in lyons? i was coming home from work yesterday (to boulder) and i saw the smoke. the fires this year are getting out of hand. we haven't really had much close to boulder thus far(despite the fact that there have been over 700 fires in co this summer).

this is getting pretty bad. kids...get out here now to look at the pretty trees, cuz july and august are going to be a bitch for fires. rumor has it that colorado will be gone by sept.
serious...

okay, not so much...just trying to make light of all of the shite that's been going on this summer.

my advice...get out here, enjoi the views and then have a few over at mountain sun...java stout...mmmmm...

sounds like you're working pretty damn hard out in that hot sun rosie. i'll think cool thoughts for you!

just saying...

colorado is fucking the best. i went with a friend and my grandpa to the poudre river. rolled up there at about 5 am to go fishing for trout.
i used lures , but then broke down when i saw this huge trout underneath a rock and used power bait sandwiched with a worm. the fish bit 4 times before i caught him. a wild trout which is hard to do without a fly fishing rod.
the fire is now 1200 acres and a plane crashed with two pilots. why don't they let it burn for awhile? it is steep and lives are lost. this fire is close to boulder and where i am staying. if colorado burns i will die!!! it is my favorite place to relax and it has been about three years.
boxing day doesn't count, no offense.
last night, i walked around the white trash neighborhood and drank buddies while meeting the neighbors. i met a manicurist and a sign maker and they are making me bumper stickers for my truck. loveland is the only place where you can send a valentine and get a stamp of cupid because it is known as the sweetheart town of america.
put that in your pipe and smoke it, but not here.
tom. is more farming. i feel solitude here. at last.
h. i got you a mug from that truck stop per your request.

last night after a rough day on the poudre i saw that my old neighborhood was on fire. wonderland lake. this is in boulder, colo. the other fire is not under control , the one that is 30 miles away. there will be no aircraft approaching, thank god. the one that crashed was a 40's bomber. i know they are well tuned, but come on doesn't this belong in a museum? the fire in boulder is out. all human started. the one near me they are letting burn which i think is good because 11 people have already died from trying to exterminate. today my job was to be the gas runner. i filled a tractor with a 100 gallons of dyded diesel and plowed the fields for the new winter wheat which will be planted in sept. the government subsidizes farmers to not plant because they and the wto would rather pay india money to send wheat to afghanistan then to use their own resources. sounds like they are trying to buy peace with the part of the middle east to me. my grandfathers farm is only partly planted. because of this big corporate wal marts and whatever try to offer him money to sell his land and develop it because one, it is valuable and two they know he isn't making shit from subsidies.
the farm land will go quickly because farmers have no choice , but to sell out and this is why i am here, to soak up the rich feeling i get from feeling dirt , my heritage and what is left of my families legacy. how sad when we can't see the landscape around us.
