this is cool: three pretty rippin' avantgarde artists / nite life people from my home port of frankfurt germany have purchased a god-forsaken ghost town in southwest texas.

there's nothing there right now -- in fact, the next airport is a two hour's drive away -- but they plan to turn it into some kind of creative center in due course.

in their own words:

"For more than 100 years Lobo was a thriving little desert town and watering stop for the railroad. In 1991 Lobo was abandoned by its last residents. 10 years later three desert loving individuals and their friends began the process of rebuilding Lobo. Their goal is to turn Lobo into a place where it is possible to express oneself in a multitude of ways . Staring in 2003 there will be an annual music, art and performance festival in Lobo."

and meet me there in 2003!

well rosie, i don't really know much about it although i will probably be seeing one of the women involved over the weekend. basically, all i know is what can be found on the web pages.

it was abandoned because it is in the middle of the desert and i guess even the railroad doesn't even pass by anymore. not even steers and queers there now.

i like the desert but i love the ocean much more and so i probably won't be building any house in lomo even though the organizers are cool people. however, a few visits will be in store for sure. i find the whole idea and concept fascinating.

If I could purchase a ghost town similar to Lobo, I would construct a town of wooden structures, aligned in a row; saloons, burlesque, museums, in the style of a frontier town. But I would also put several ripping speakers throughout the town, located in no particular order, and have them running off a main line for music and words. I would designate a psychedelic night where everyone was required to dose somehow or another and I would blast the speakers throughout the town to Floyd's "shine on you crazy diamond" over and over until the tension of the trip started to culminate in the minds of the individuals. Just when they're ready to freak out and rip off their clothes to run off into the desert naked, I would start reciting lines from the great work of fiction known as the bible. Naturally I would have to select quotes that explained to these acid faced individuals that they are going to die in a fiery hell if they don't repent. Then I would laugh at everyone when they would start to really freak out. After the music and bible reading, I would invite everyone to the center of town under the stars for a great feast and some wine drinking, and if they chose, more psychedelics. After the feast we would bust out the trampolines and get all sweaty and worked up, then the scavenger hunt off into the desert would start.

Jack (or should I say David)- I think one Waco in Texas was enough. But like the idea of you playing God.
