Give up your cars for bicycles so that you can more appreciate the land. Also, riding a bike makes any place you go, like work or school, more enjoyable, especially when outside is cold and the buildings have coffee.

This summer I am going to ride my bike through the wilderness of Missouri. My path will be the Katy Trail.

Have a good time man. I would have to agree, not much beats being out on a day when it's about 65, breezy and sunny when taking to the trails or the back roads on a bike.

So now there are two Jacks too, Christ!!

This has nothing to do with Jacks or bicycling, but travel it does. The hubby is alive and kicking it in Costa Rica; his news, proving that even though the military sucks ass, you can still occasionally have a good time in spite of them:

So I'm sitting in a bar in Golfito, Coasta Rica
having a hamberguesa con queso and papas fritos (cheeseburger and fries)
and all of a sudden out of the corner of my eye. I see, and hear at the
same time, this thing scampering across the tile floor. Now, there are no
doors or walls on the establishments in Costa Rica, or many other places in
South America for that matter, so things can just come and go as they
please. As was the case here. A six-foot long wild iquana had gotten into
the bar area and ran into the kitchen. After trapping it under a table in
the corner of the kitchen, the manager of the bar, Claude (a Frenchmen I
befriended on the first port visit) catches the iquana and brings him out
for us to see. This certain breed was absolutely no harm to us, as Claude
explained, so he handed him to me and all of us got a picture with the wild
iguana (which I will send to you as soon as I can get them). After the
little photo shoot, we let him go down on the beach and he quickly ran and
hid in a hole under a coconut tree. Claude then explained that, that
particular iguana was "really good eatin.'" Later in the day we made a trek
of about 2 kilometers, which is a long way on foot in the heat of Costa
Rica, and managed to end the day by swimming in a pool at a really cool
little hotel. Lo-and-behold, on the other side of the fence of the pool
were three large crocodiles and about 100 different types of lizards and
iguanas, and really brightly colored birds. So we had a little wildlife
adventure that was completely unexpected.

Iguanas are a great source of protein, and they taste really good, too. They are white meat, but the fat is bright orange, thus, strange. I've also heard of great things in the Costa Rican jungle.

The hubby was in the Costa Rican jungle on Thanksgiving. He gave thanks to a big waterfall and a guide that looked like my dad. The only crazy action he got was a fight over a little monkey that he and his buddies found -- sad! (they don't get enough loving so they resort to brawling over the affections of a monkey, says something about men)

NOT ALL OF YOU THOUGH, RIGHT?

How's your friend holding up in boot camp?

I have been to the Costa Rica jungle. I saw my relatives there. No really. Sloths everywhere. Giant motherfucking crocodiles too though. Dinosauric prehistoric. There was a bar in the middle of the jungle. No shit! Natives were half naked and drinking Imperial and skinning up. Women were eating iguanas and my guide from Nicaragua was laughing at them. Good times. Wish I were there for a few weeks to soak up some sun.

Typing can come out rather confusing as well. Just ask McCutcheon. I've seen some of his stuff after a bender and it can be baffling. Usually pretty good once I've read it a few times though...

neighborhood: anything but a bore.
today four doors down my neighbor woke up and killed his eleven year old daughter. what the fuck is that?
i have every news station in front of my house ,a barricade and eleven cop cars, plus a surveillance van. caution stripes everywhere.
i knew this was a creepy place even though ironically i am sandwiched between two catholic churches.
the last house i lived in my neighbor right next door was shot, but that was over crack and women.
when violence is close to you it makes you think much harder about the state of the human condition.
why can't we love one another? why am i a hypocrite?

Jesus, Rosie.
I spent today thankfully oblivious that a few blocks away this had happened. I spent the day treating an 8 year old girl to a spoiling that she deserved.
I spent the day making her smile, letting her know that even though we don't have a lot, we have enough.
And we came home to say hello to McC. and eat some junk food and catch up on daily things...
And I saw your post as I'm going through my addictive habit of reading this website.

I can not begin to imagine what the hell is wrong with that man.
The news said that there had been a lot of death in his family recently. What? Did he figure he'd save her the misery of dying in her own time, speed up the process? Or maybe he was too cowardly to take his own life, so cowardly he took the life of another.
It doesn't make sense. And it makes me angry.
Maybe I can't understand because I am somebody's mother. And I love this creature more than I could love anyone, ever.
Even when life has been at it's shittiest, it's never that bad knowing that someone like her exists. I think more so, knowing that she's seen horrors I have never been forced to endure.
And still she smiles at everyone she meets.
Why would someone want to take something like that out of this world when there are so many ugly things you face on a daily basis?

I am biased, of course. And I'm not surprised when things like this happen. It seems to me that people have taken to offing each other on a regular basis lately.
I'm finding that I am still shocked when it's done to a child, that's all. Lover's quarrel, drug war, just plain old war. Sure. Stupid, useless killing.
Whatever it is, you can't find me one excuse in the world that's going to make it okay.

Hope my use of this venue to go off in such a manner does not offend. Not sure that I give much of a shit if it does.

And Rosie, you are not a hypocrite.
