Airlines and General

Hmm since you seem to be a well traveled lot... I was wondering if anyone has any airline recommendations for a college student who happens to be painfully short of cash.
The only thing I've been told really is only use Delta if you don't need your luggage and I have decided that Northwest is probably cheap for a reason (horrible experience; I won't bore you).
I'd like to be in the UK to see SO by umm... the 27th Dec. because I'll have to leave to be back in school the 7th by the 3rd-4th of Jan.

Also, anyone have any suggestions for a fab spring break? Personally I was thinking Rhodes or a Greek Island cruise. Maybe the south of France somewhere... but if anyone has any other suggestions it's still open to debate. SO wants to meet in Jersey since he lives in Coventry and he can get a cheap direct flight there; but since I can't I'm not terribly keen.

Having been down this very path some time ago I humbly offer this advice. Join every airline frequent flyer programme. They send out deals to club members. On occasion these deals may fit your plans. Are you a student? If so, STA Travel is the way to go. They were always the cheapest. So much so that I got my sister, who is an admissions officer at London University, to keep issuing me student I.D. so that I could take advantage of the deals. (Don't rely on Delta. The headline on the front of the Cincy Enquirer sez that they are going to file for bancruptcy.

When I was a real student I didn't give a shit about direct flights. Money was more important than time. If they were bumping folks off flights I always took the airmiles. I got a return to New York off a one day layover in the US.

Thanks Tommy :)

that travel site was uber helpful but only marginally cheaper than the flight I found on expedia. I definately need one of those student cards though; a lot of little saving adds up.

Are you signed up for frequent flyer programmes already? Seeing as Cincinnati is the delta hub I do that one. Once a week they e-mail you offers that you can't get anywhere else. I keep watching for Seattle to pop up and then bingo I'll take it. It is usually about 200 bucks less than the standard fare. My sched ule is fairly flexible so I can take advantage of this sort of thing.

Have you ever gone down the priceline route? I have a friend who just got rooms in Vancouver BC four seasons for 75 bucks a night.

AND don't get married until you are at least 25. I could explain this in detail if you like but for now just take my word for it

Don't get married just yet! But do give the guy a chance.

Have to say though, that since you're a college student (=no cash) and this chap has a 'real job' (=at least some cash), he should be able to chip in and help to pay at least some of your air fare to come see him in the UK. After all, it's not for your sake alone you're going, it's for both of you.

By the same logic, it seems not just a little selfish of this guy to suggest going on a spring break to Jersey - because he can get a cheap direct flight?? Not considering that you'll have to fly across half the globe to get anywhere near there, plus fork out a ton of cash. He should let you pick the place, and why not go somewhere that's closer and cheaper for you? How about him coming to visit you, or meet up somewhere affordable, like Mexico? Have to say that this last suggestion of his made me think twice about this guy... :?

Well... lovely boyfriend will pay for it but I'd rather he not have to. I hate having to spend his money... I feel like a bitch. If he can't convince me it's ok I doubt anyone can.
