fucken horrid week

Post by martino »

what was this last week, some more proof that the good die young? as if i needed that

the bad guys who die old first. leni riefenstahl was a mean old nazi witch, hitler's girlfriend, an aesthetic innovator who made maybe one good movie and took 500 good photos. apart that, she had no redeeming features i could imagine. she lived to 101 years, undeservedly. i know a grandson of hers and he didn't flinch when i said i'll be glad to stamp down on her grave.

if riefenstahl was an overrated but evil artist then edmund teller was a gifted but evil scientist. it was bad enough to rat on robert oppenheimer but teller had to go on and develop the h-bomb. they say kubrick delivered an accurate portrait of teller in "dr. strangelove" and i say teller was a jerk to propagate reagan's star war's plans. how old was he when he died last week -- 94? is that justice?

in contrast, i always liked charles bronson, perhaps because i am european. in any case i thought he had his heart in the right place and he could be more expressive with his eyes than, say, most any authors are with words. sad to see you go old man.

talking about expressive, mccutcheon has said more than i ever could about johnny cash. i know dozens of people over here who are really sad about his much too early death. what is 71, anyway, for somebody like cash?

and what was 44 for anna lindh? is there any logic in her killing? what's the sense in knifing one of europe's most talented politicians, the only foreign minister who had the balls to tell berlusconi to his face she thought he was unfit for office? it seems her murderer twisted his knife after he pushed it into her liver, just to make extra sure she would die. what kind of a world is it where decrepit old farts die in their sleep while great people who are shining examples to millions die sick and sad and suffering?
