I'm glad the war is over.

Post by Maverick »

OK, Myke, I have to admit, I didn't read most of whats on this page, because I wanted to comment on one statement you made a few posts back.
"Of course you all agree"

WRONG! I tend to disagree with much of the liberal views on things like the war, and you would know that if you actually paid attention, and weren't constantly looking to be persecuted. I am not for blindly following a government whose current Top Leader can barely tie his own shoes without being manipulated by powermongers, but thats not enough to lump me in with liberal views of everything.

Also, there's this new guy, Tommy Martyn, you may have heard of him. He doesnt agree with anyone. Pay attentio nand stop trying to seem like the martyr. As much as you'd like it, we don't hate you.

Maverick ... perhaps I shoulda said "all but a few always agree" instead of just using all. A minor modification but the point remains the same. And believe it or not, I do try to be somewhat educated on something before I speak an opinion ... especially if I'm vehement about it. I noticed you don't always agree and I've read Tommy Martyn's posts as well. Hell, he's a perfect example of someone disagreeing then getting jumped on. It makes a person defensive. I pay attention more than you think, man ...

Wow ... now I'm a cold motherfuckin' disagreeable assholish martyr. I wonder how that can be transferred into Latin.

I must point out (again) that I didn't vote for Bush and won't next time around either. But ... I've also asked several times in regards to the war with Iraq that what would any of the naysayers have as an alternative for the Iraqi people? I can only judge by the silence is that most would have rather the war not happened, thereby Sadaam staying in power, and no one having to here about his despotism on a daily basis and being none the wiser. How humanitarian of everyone (disclaimer: but not Mav or Tommy). As such, I pass my crown of martyrdom on to the lot of you (disclamier: but not Mav or Tommy).

poor old myke, still getting on his horse and attacking windmills.

it's endearing in a way, isn't it -- there's this guy who finds this website that is anti-establishment, anti-war, pro-substance-abuse-experimentation, pro-international friendship... he finds it strangely attractive, except that most members of the site's bulletin board are anti-war, anti-establishment...

so he tries to sell them his particular political/cultural philosophy: suicidal pop stars have weak characters; remake/refake movies such as the italian job are more interesting than black-and-white dada experiments; fighting a war to take out the bad guys is a great thing and anti-war protesters are whiners.

funny, they don't accept his arguments, which probably means they are intolerant of other views... strange how these anti-establishment people have such closed minds.

See ... I didn't know the website had an official stance of anything. Perhaps the members do but wasn't it McCutcheon who said diversity of opinions, religions, genders, sexual orientations, nationalities, etc. all grouped together is what would make Pax Acidus great? Or am I wrong? Are you saying, Martino, that you believe that those who don't adhere to what you feel is the official stance of the website really don't have a place here? Hmmm.

Trying not to be verbose! ....

Buy me drink, Martino!

ah myke, maybe you're right.

certainly, there is no official PA policy or philosophy or stance -- anyway, it is not for me to say. perhaps mc or ooh will elucidate.

it was just a strong impression i got from reading all the stories, reading the posts, and meeting mc and the clan. but i may be wrong.

takes all kind to make a world. be glad to buy you a drink anytime.

I'm not going to add anything substanial to this cos even though I disagree with the whole thing, and laughing my ass off cos we didn't find any WMD over there, I dont' care. Now I DO care, as I have to live on this great planet, but I'm not going to dwell on it. I simply wanted to respond to Mykey why I call Sloth "Slothy". Sloth is a cool muthafucka and I've learned alot from him. I think he once told me to call him "Papa Sloth" I think I did, but thats cos I'm goofy. Besides, I know it brings a smile to his face. Now only if I could only beat him to the punch on the CMS. Back to studying kids...

I’ve been having a lot of interesting conversations with the recruiters from the military, navy and whatever the hell else there is. Sometimes more on the spooky side than interesting though. Because I just graduated, they keep calling and want to meet with me to give me information. I always say no and they ask why not. I explain that I don’t want to kill anyone that doesn’t deserve it. This is where it gets interesting because they usually get extremely defensive and pretty rude too. I try to tell them that I may have the wrong idea about what is really going on in the world, but who could really know the way the media presents information with extremely biased, one-sided arguments. I don’t know about other countries but the way news is handled in America is ridiculous. I honestly have no idea what to think about anything going on in the world and that is a strange feeling. The spooky thing is the way these recruiters are at a complete loss at how to respond intelligently to my reasoning.

Oh my God that sounds like all the military people I have ever met. They sound like badly programmed programmed robots

It is unfortuntate that these people are the representatives, the spokespeople, for the military. You're right, most recruiters are poorly programmed robots, but remember, the ones who call you up and staff recruitment centers aren't looking for the next General, they're on the hunt for cannon fodder. If you ask an intelligent question which isn't in their handbook, they're at a loss. Avoid them at all costs.
On the other hand, not every person in the military is an uneducated warmongering throwback. I have met many military people who seem to have a responsible view of their jobs and the american military's position in the world. The ones I'm referring to don't call arabs towelheads, and don't joke about killing for fun and adventure.

Unfortunately, there are many of those who do. They are the enemy of enlightened, humanistic thought, not everyone wearing a uniform. On occasion, military action has been a good thing, and military people have brought humanitarian aid and disaster relief to places that they didn't destroy first.

That's funny, Sean. Any more interesting anecdotes along these lines would be appreciated.
Write down exact quotes of what they say. I'd get a kick out of it.

Something way back up this thread caught my eye and I think it was posted by H. Forgive me if I am wrong. H thought the war was something of a personal vendetta on the behalf of president Bush. Although it makes good copy it does not bear up to analysis. I'll spell it out for you at a later date if I have to, but you could save me the trouble by reading the peice headed, "Bush rushing to war? Nonsense." It is over at slate.com is dated feb 24 and is written by the brilliant Christopher Hitchens.

Mav, I hope if I ever get killed by an invading army that I get shot by one of the nice responsible military guys and not one the racist throwback ones.

Thanks for the imput doll, I'll check it out. Though I still think it's personal, regardless.
I know I may be at a disagreeable viewpoint, but we all have our own little lives...
I'll fight for my girl (which I've had to) myself, my family, and hell, my country. IF I have a good reason. Bush's reasons don't really make sense to me because of the whole little man sydrome/personal vendetta thing. Mind you, I haven't read what you told me to so I could change my opinion by tomorrow. Image
Who am I anyway? Just some girl with some jackass words.
I'll put some effort and thought into it and get back to you on what I think.
