Operation Iraqi Freedom is coming to an end. Or rather, the war is almost over, or is over, I no longer really keep up. The reports I do hear though seem to be along the line of- you are now free to do what you want, as long as it is what we want you to do. That sort of sounds like the freedom they have in prison. Some guy stepped up and said he was going to mayor of Baghdad, and he was arrested. Now I'm sure this new mayor was an evil man with hidden weapons of mass destruction and was taken down, so of course we did the right thing. Donny R is now over there and I think he should just stay and make himself the president. I'm sure it wouldn't be long before he became a dictator and started living out his wet dream Nazi fantasies. In a decade we could go to war again, every ten years seems to be the respectable thing to do. Keep your protest signs.

Oh, give me a break. The self proclaimed "mayor of baghdad" was an excile returned to Iraq afer many moons who proclaimed himself mayor without anyone's consent, Iraqi civilians or coalition forces. "Freedom they have in prison" ... geez ... melodrama really is the word of the year around here. You took a guy who had no right to anything who tried to wrest power in the biggest city in Iraq and when he was removed, you proclaim that akin to prison. I admire your intelligence in most matters, Mc but that has no basis in reality. Let's see ... whether or not you agreed with the initial invasion, at least be objective in judging the aftermath. It is clearly to early to see just what type of government the Iraqis will end up with. At least the US/UK coalition are attempting to involve all sides, minorities, and religious groups in the building process. Kudos to them for removing that guy and kudos for them for attempting to prevent a government of religous zealots from taking over ala Iran. Whatever they end up with, they are already experiencing more freedom than they ever did under Sadaam. Do you think he would have tolerated the street protests at all?

Vietnam ... no comparison. If you really want to compare whether or not military intervention can be worth it or not, look at the Koreas. Which one now has more freedom? North? I think not. Completely free nation in the south with a high standard of living. Dictatorship in the north with a starving populace.

It would be much easier to take varying opinions if you at least had something ... anything valid to back it up with. It's a shame that folks on both the far right and far left hate the other side so badly that they trounce anything the other one does as evil regardless of the true situation.

If you really think it's that bad over there, then go there. Do something about it. Seriously. Why even bother living here if you hate it that bad? You could DJ just as eaily in Europe. Or at least, don't whine so much. Just drink a little wine.

I agree, I didn't think that mayor had any value- even though it did make me laugh, I mean what balls!!! It was total Pax Acidus.

"Okay I'm mayor."

But that wasn't the point of my post.

Mc ... hell, man ... I never get the point of half of your posts! And I don't mean that in a bad way. You simply mystify me half the time.

Hey, did anyone ever tell you that you're just a really nice person? Well, I'll tell you that even if I don't have my Johnny Cash cd! HA!

I wonder if I go to Iraq and claim to be a long lost dissident can I get in on the power bargaining? Nah, the blonde hair and blue eyes would be a give away.

I asked my British, intelligent, moderate, champagne socialist friend if Iraq and Baghdad in general had the potential to become like the North Irish 'troubles' and he rebuffed me.

U.S. troops killed 13 Iraqi demonstrators west of Baghdad overnight, witnesses said on Tuesday, in bloodshed sure to inflame anti-American anger. U.S. officers said they fired in self defense. Witnesses in Falluja, 30 miles outside the capital, told Reuters the troops opened fire on several hundred unarmed demonstrators who had been demanding the soldiers vacate a school they were using as a barracks. Falluja hospital director Ahmed Ghanim al-Ali said 13 people had been killed and at least 75 wounded in the late night incident. There were widely conflicting accounts of what had happened.

Oh really? Some people died. Can we accept that? Just because we are so desensitized that we can no longer comprehend death happening to someone else, doesn't mean we shouldn't realize a tragedy. And I don't mean a talking head fucking Army general saying we'll never forget the dead, who gave their life to free Iraq- Oh yeah? You can't ever remember their names... Don't fucking tell such lies. We should pinch our skin and wake up to the facts around us. The loss of life is the biggest sacrifice. Looks like we might have some ‘troubles' on our hands. The people we gave freedom to aren't partying in the streets no more.

Everybody loves a winner!!!!

Defense Secretary Donald Nazi Rumsfeld made an unannounced visit to Iraq on Wednesday, pledging that his troops would leave as soon as possible, but fresh bloodshed erupted at an anti-American protest. Even as Rumsfeld savored victory in the military campaign he planned and led, a leading Arabic newspaper published what it said was a letter from Saddam Hussein, ousted three weeks ago, in which he urged Iraqis to throw out U.S. and British forces. Residents of Falluja, 30 miles outside the capital where 13 people were killed in a rally late on Monday night, said U.S. troops shot dead two more people during a demonstration on Wednesday.

What would happen if cops shot dead 15 protesters in the USA! There would be outrage. at least more than there is now in Iraq, wait I bet there is outrage in Iraq. People with familes are dead. And they must be outraged if they are protesting and losing their lives. Why is the US army in a school? Was the Holiday Inn blown up?

Yo, McCutcheon. You must get out of bed on the west coast at about the same time I'm going to lunch from work on the east coast. We always seem to be posting at the same time.
