It's a great article about censorship oif the young. What do you think? I remember high school as nothing more than a fucking boring load of crusty old horse bollocks.

That's really weird. I can't figure out why they thought that shirt would "inflame the passions" of the Arab-Americans, and how that justifies censoring his right to free speech. Gosh I can't imagine being 16 and having all this shit going on.
Poor dude.

Here's a funny bit of lyrics that someone sent me...most of you'll appreciate them, I think.

"If You're Happy And You Know It Bomb Iraq"
by John Robbins

If you cannot find Osama, bomb Iraq.
If the markets are a drama, bomb Iraq.
If the terrorists are frisky, Pakistan is looking shifty,
North Korea is too risky, Bomb Iraq.

If we have no allies with us, bomb Iraq.
If we think that someone's dissed us, bomb Iraq.
So to hell with the inspections, Let's look tough for the elections,
Close your mind and take directions, Bomb Iraq.

It's pre-emptive non-aggression, bomb Iraq.
To prevent this mass destruction, bomb Iraq.
They've got weapons we can't see, and that's all the proof we need,
If they're not there, they must be there, Bomb Iraq.

If you never were elected, bomb Iraq.
If your mood is quite dejected, bomb Iraq.
If you think Saddam's gone mad with the weapons that he had,
And he tried to kill your dad, Bomb Iraq.

If corporate fraud is growin', bomb Iraq.
If your ties to it are showin', bomb Iraq.
If your politics are sleazy, and hiding that ain't easy,
And your manhood's getting queasy, Bomb Iraq.

Fall in line and follow orders, bomb Iraq.
For our might knows not our borders, bomb Iraq.
Disagree? We'll call it treason,
Let's make war not love this season,
Even if we have no reason, Bomb Iraq.

Mav! I'm so glad you posted that. I'd seen an excerpt of that on some website recently but by the time I wanted to post it here, I couldn't find my way back to the source. Excellent stuff.

Hey, you think the CIA likes GW? Hell no. They've had enough PR problems without him ordering them to do more stuff that will make them look bad. The military doesnt like him either. They say he has no idea of what it takes to mount a successful military campaign. Believe it or not, most military people at higher levels are against the war too. Not that they wouldn't want to take out Saddam, but they, like the rest of us wonder why he thinks we can just take over Iraq without major loss of life on both sides, not to mention huge expenditures, and leaving some of our flanks under defended, especially since he's been agitating those on our flanks we might need to defend ourselves against someday. He wants to play soldier, and real soldiers dont like that.

He has no idea about covert operations either...the man's got a poker face like a kid with an ice cream cone.

This may be the first and only time that the peace, love, and rock n roll lovin' Paxacidians are on the same side as top military advisors.

Who are these top military advisors?

Names?

They obiously have no say in what is going on. I think the Presdient would listen to his military advisors!

Unfortunately, he doesn't listen to them. Colin Powell was one of them, although lately, he's been toeing the line. THe others, unfortunately, aren't his advisors, just generals who have been out there, getting their feet dirty and losing men for no reason. They don't like that any more than the rest of us do...the good ones like it even less than we do.

Good soldiers don't start wars, they finish them.

My assessment of Modern Life Is Rubbish. The album by Blur.

When the Modern Life Is Rubbish album by Blur first came out, all I had was NME's or Melody Maker's to go by. I saw the band wearing blazers then. Mod? I ignored the album at first, because musical fashion had changed in Britain since their first album. They were supposed to be has-beens. Eventually I checked out the album, and enjoyed it. I was good, but could be better.
Then came Parklife, the masterpiece that they'll never top especially since Graham the guitarist is gone. You can't have Blur without Graham for me anyway, it just doesn't work. If they release anything else, it won't include Graham. Bad news.

Oh well. At least Johnny Marr's proper debut is out, never despair. It's called "Boomslang". Witness a layer of the straosphere just above Oasis and Charlatans.

But the second PiL album is connected to CAN. I have read essays verifying my own views about how early PiL is related to CAN and I can see it myself. Early PiL is fucking brilliant. If you have the first and second albums, you have what to me is a milestone in music.

Tip hat to Gang of Four.

New Magic Magicians and early Cabaret Voltaire ('78-'82)
Jeff Buckley's surprise posthumous release of the last year "Songs To No One".

McC - I went to a Magic Magicians gig recently and I wanted you to know that. Weird thing was I saw a lot of women there I thought might be Amanda, although I knew that wasn't possible. I would think they might be Amanda until I saw their faces. I concluded there must have been a lot of women with black hair to copy her hairstyle all of a sudden, even the keyboardist of one of the opening bands, and they were amazing. The Vells best American take on Brit Pop I've heard so far. A local band. John Atkins said they were amazing as well.
