yesterday a anti-immigration, populist politician was shot dead in the netherlands.
this is bad news. the netherlands used to be the place where they solved social problems in a sensible and decent manner. for example, you can legally buy drugs and have sex with whores in amsterdam. the dutch never killed a politician in all recent memory -- just talking things over was good enough.
pim fortuyn was a weird but effective politician. he was openly gay but was against immigration. he thought the country was too crowded and that islamists were racist, sexist and anti-gay.
i think his position was wrong-headed; i am all for open borders. but certainly, he was not a fascist like le pen. he had a legitimate opinion and it is wrong, just wrong to kill this kind of guy.
it means that anti-immigration people might well radicalise and turn into racists. when i think of this i fear the future.

Right wing in Europe means you are anti-immigration and that's about it.
Right wing in America has different connotations. Financial and religious. And certainly you would not get any openly homosexual right wing leaders.
The right wing is growing in the Netherlands and in France and even in liberal bastions like Sweden because North African muslims do not integrate very well into their new societies. In fact they are hated almost universally.
Many lib-dems tell me they spit everywhere and don't respect the humanity of women and make everything ugly by tagging it with indecipherable symbols. On top of everything else they have a "holier than thou" attitude with no basis in reality or education.
So who is at fault?
Can we blame the North African immigrants for being so ignorant about the nature of the universe?
Or isn't the real fault the "caviar liberals" who claim they love everyone when they live in guarded mansions in the city and then open the floodgates of "cheap labor" instead of pushing technology to replace the menial labor of the common man?
Well if you ask me...
I'm not touching that one with a ten foot pole!
However, the martyring of Fortuyn will make things much worse for the recent immigrants in the Netherlands, and will make his party much more radical and popular.
People in cities are generally more tolerant of the differences in humanity. In the suburbs where the housing is ugly and the streets are dirty and the soccer balls are more important than they ought to be...
Who knows?
I feel bad for the majority of immigrants who do try their best to live well and integrate and bad for the poor EU whiteys who are seeing their own culture and people desecrated and realize that something bad is going to happen soon. Remember that the EU is not America. It was not built with slave labor and immigrants. The fruits do not HAVE to be shared with everyone.
Even a lib-dem will admit that The North Africans were allowed inside the EU just to sweep the floors, mine the coal, run the corner stores, and otherwise shut the hell up.
In some ways the problems are much worse here than in America. A successful African or Arab in Europe is rarer than a heterosexual priest. At least in America there is a large and growing middle class of so called "minorities".
Until this happens in Europe, people are gonna end up prematurely dead in boxes underground. Only social status and education can make people see that Islam is a joke of a religion like Christianity and the real things in life is personal expression and the pursuit of enlightenment through Art.

only one thing to add. europe is growing. the EU now is made up of 13 countries but will grow to 27 within the next decade or two. people are afraid of this, as they are of all dynamic processes. and politicians are making the EU a scapegoat for all that is not going well.
