Bulletin Board of Bad Behavior

well, there is a new proposal in congress. Some republican from Michigan has proposed that the draft be reinstated. I'm not sure when congress will debate it, and i'm not quite sure how serious it is. But the draft bill says that people ages 18-24, i believe, need basic military training to prepare for times of war and terrorism.

I know most of you here are not within that age range, I'm assuming, but alot of my friends are. I guess we haven't learned much from Vietnam after all.

i know what you mean. funny, my roommate is 18 and going to boot camp in a month. he says it is a better option than hanging out at the b and o all the time. we joke about getting him arrested so he can't go. oh the good times

Do get your roommate out of it, if possible. Speaking from second hand experience, the hubby is a sailor, it is about the most mind numbing job a person could have. He has met some great people, but none of them were in for long. If you think for yourself you won't last, and they'll crucify you. The hubby has been miserable from that end. He has met amazing people (French pub owners in Panama, Rhastafarian tatoo artists in Manta, Polish beauties, Captain Dave in Key West) and seen amazing things (all of Europe, Aruba, Ecuador's rain forest, etc), but he's had to pay for it every step of the way because he just can't shut the hell up, and military folks really don't want to hear, "Well, there are women and children in Afghanistan that have nothing to do with this." The response he got to that was, "You make me sick." He's not a very popular person on his ship, so he reads a lot, and talks to me, but it's an ugly ugly world most days. Ugliest of all, we haven't been able to have the good loving since October -- becoming a eunich without reaping the spiritual rewards; it's enough to make a boy and a girl really bitter. DO THE DRUGS! FAIL THE PISS TEST! AND DON'T GO! (Nine days until the non-spiritual celibacy is over, do you think I'm a happier girl, yes! yes! yes!)

Something else about the military while I'm thinking about it; These guys in the military who are there "to protect freedom" don't actually have it themselves. It is a concept I don't think most of them understand. But it's called liberty, and it's taken away from them and given back to them when the military decides. Something for your roommate to consider seriously. If he ever beleived himself to be free and thought he enjoyed it, he should really really reconsider his decision. "Liberty expires at . . ." Translation: your ass is mine whenever I say so.

Ouch Sarah. That is a scathing indictment of the military. doubledouble Ouch. The truth hurts, doesn't it?

excellent points. he is the kind of man who would appear to thrive in the military. he will work in the air force as an engineer.

Celibacy sucks. Even when we say if you look at it this way or that way -- bullshit, it sucks. I think he deals with it better than I do; maybe he's getting some on the side.
I could just go on and on trying to get your friend not to join. I have about three years worth of reasons, but perception is everything, so maybe he'll enjoy it. We find other things to think about and be happy about.
