I found out today that music from a particularly noisy band from my hometown was used by a U.S. soldier to coax information from an Iraqi prisoner. I am just absolutely sickened.
I do think the Dems are not stupid though I think they have the power to block Bush's plan to send in more troops and I think they will. No one fucking supports this goddamn war anymore. We're in the majority now. And I don't think we gain a goddamn thing by staying in Iraq. I can understand the need to think it through and think 'what are the consequences if we leave?' but you know what? It's a stinking mass of shit and there's only one thing we can do and that is get the hell out. Now.

I would totally agree with the fact that it's a total clusterfuck over there but how quick we can get out is questionable. My worry is ... as bad as it is now ... it will get a billion times worse should we pull out immediately. There's a guerilla/civil war there now and should we just walk out now, I think it would fall farther into total anarchy (not that's it's not close to that now). They simply have to much hate between the dominate ethnic/religous groups there ... Sunni, Shia, & Kurd ... for them to ever want to live together as a cohesive nation. The Kurds have basically lived automously anyway since the first gulf war due to the protection of the US and British led "no fly zone" over much off the northern Iraqi territory dominated by the Kurds. They want an independent Kurdistan which would threaten neighboring Turkey to the north which has a sizable Kurdish minority who have been fighting their own Shining Path style insurgency for separation for many years. Turkey would get pulled in. Iran surely would increase their involvement. Jordan and Saudi Arabia would feel the need to try to protect their own interests (which is keeping their governments from going down themselves) and Israel would want to nuke the place should we pull out and full scale hell breaks loose. Take in mind ... I've admitted and fully believe that Iraq is a mess. I just think it may be so much worse should we pull out to soon. I think Iran, especially, has the likeliest chance of becoming dominant in the area with a weakened or fully partioned 3 state Iraq. Most people don't even realize ... it's not like Iraq is or was this 1000 year old state that simply was supressed under Hussein. They were fractured remnants of British and French rule following the defeat of the Ottoman Empire following WWI shoved together as a nation by the British & French under a League of Nations (precursor to the UN) mandate so they could get the hell out of there themselves in the early 20th century. So, it's no like there's a true long term shared culture as "Iraqis" to begin with ... which makes breaking it apart a more likely scenario to me over the long term in order for any sort of stability to take place.
