sloth. that's fine really -- i mean some things i vehemently disagree with because they've historically caused major problems for world. like greed. it's what i believe, like you believe that religion has caused problems, is the root of major problems - - greed to me, the love of money, the craving for what someone else has and the unwillingness to share what you do have -- on my list it's a much bigger problem causer than religion.

i don't think war began with religion. it began with "civilization" because of the mentality "IT'S" MINE AND THOSE LIKE ME -- "IT'S" OURS AND YOU CAN'T HAVE "IT" BECAUSE THIS IS MY TERRITORY AND "IT'S" JUST FOR THE FOLKS LIKE ME AND THAT'S YOURS OVER THERE IN SAY AFRICA, HONDURAS, IRAQ AND YOU'RE NOT HUMAN LIKE ME AND MY WEALTHY FRIENDS WE KILL AND EXPLOIT YOU BECAUSE YOU WERE BORN OVER THERE AND I WAS BORN OVER HERE. AND WE'RE NOT SMART ENOUGH TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO SHARE "IT" -- GREED

mark,
"they forbid MUSIC ! THE SHAME! To FORBID MUSIC!"

why did the clash write "Rock the casbah"?

anyway, my muslim brother in law brought me a very cool arabic cd.

"Should we understand them? Yeah, as a defensive tactic on our part we should definitely strive to understand them as best we can, as we would any enemy"

the older i've gotten, the more kids i've taught from more places, the more really cool, like muslims, people i've met, the more i don't think there is a "them" -- there is US, humans.

i think "them" is as big a trick as "religion" -- it is used to divide US humans. it's just basic. there is no them -- there is US

i think the sooner we start looking for what we all have in common the better off we all will be. that's why in world history we now teach religion -- in public school, like it or not it is the state's curriculum, and students learn that the three major world religions come from the same place. they are taught things like venn diagrams, and they are required by the state and by public schools in america to recognize how all religions have many things in common, just as all people do. shocking but true. they all have the same root.

I must say point taken, Sarah, though the part where you mentioned venn diagrams really cracked me up. Cause that's what Tommy accused me of talking about a long time ago was Venn Diagrams. HAHAHAHAH.
