The State of My Union

Post by megapulse »

My state of the union -- something to woo-hoo about in light of the doo-doo we had on television tonight and in our recent news.

This is very old news, but when I read it, it still makes me happy. Occasionally, I'll just think about it and some other comments Mr. Paige made on national television that no one seemed to take note of, and I'm like, yeah, unions kick ass!

THE NEA TOOK ROD PAIGE AWAY!

On February 23, 2004, at a White House meeting with the nation's governors, Paige criticized the National Education Association (NEA) for obstructing "No Child Left Behind's historic education reforms," calling the NEA a "terrorist organization." He later said it "was an inappropriate choice of words" and apologized later the same day, but maintained that the NEA uses "obstructionist scare tactics" in opposing the law. The union called for his resignation. (The National Education Association is the largest labor union in the United States)

Mr. Rod Paige who requested that all schools allow recruiters to have access to the personal contact information of students resigned from his position as United States Secretary of Education in November of 2004 -- take that!

mc, in response to mrs. king's death -- bronx masquerade is a c. scott king award winning novel. :)

you should read my students' papers.

i believe that children are the future . . . teach them well and let them . . . you know that cheesy songs are a favorite of the cheese wagon kids.

it's going to be okay. i promise, i see the future everyday.

today's papers addressing the state of our union were pretty good. albeit, the five paragraph essay is about to kill me and any creative talent the children might have.

if there is an onslaught of really dry, boring, uncreative, yet structurally sound writers in the future, gw and company are responisible. not me, i'm not taking credit for the fucking four square -- i didn't come up with this brilliance, i'm just forced to force it upon children.

luckily, the children are pretty smart. if most of them could travel back through time, they would go back to the civil rights era and save mlk (got mlk? -- i guess the slogan worked -- that's who they all want to go back and save. :) ) i wonder why. one explained that perhaps, if mlk were still alive, we'd have a better president -- at least one who made better political decisions. i, of course, could not agree, although i can not agree more.

another is going back to the past to teach people how to recycle -- where'd that idea come from.

and then there is the brilliant young lady who is going into the future to make cars that fly and do not create traffic problems or air pollution.

gw may be able to read upside down, but he's not really represent'n -- the interests of my kids.

but the kids voted for kerry

(and in the hallway between classes, i get to read how SAINT saves his mom, Yoshido Kimyan, by stabbing his uncle and then draining his blood into a large, silver pail, which SAINT then uses to drown the evil uncle in for betraying his own people . the kids are still creating great works of gross weirdness, which i am intrepreting as an allegory for our times, we all know who the evil uncle is. although i don't get paid to read these delights anymore, i still enjoy it when they are brought to me in the morning like the little treats my hunting dog once dragged up and deposited near the porch -- she's gone missing, i think she's chasing deer in doggy heaven and whooping like hound dogs do.)
