Of course they're fucking mad...in every sense of the word. That's something the English are great at, getting mad and blustering. Hopping mad, I believe is the correct term. I'm as much of an anglophile as most on this board (although my knowledge of their music is probably the lowest of anyone here), but it's because I recognize America's kinship with the English, and our similarities, that I wworry that we may repeat their mistakes such as:
1. Being seen by the rest of the world as pompous and self important (ok, we already are that one)
2. Babbling on about serving god and country, when really only serving to make the rich richer (that one too)
3. Creating a glorified mythology of our past glories filled with heroes slaying dragons and driving snakes out of places.(yup, we've got those too)
4. Isolating themselves ideologically from the rest of the world, then protesting that everyone else has got it wrong.
Oh hell, it seems like we ARE England. We might as well pledge our lives to the Queen and let them have us back. It's a win-win situation. They could again have a bona-fide Empire, and I could have hope of attaining my lifelong dream of being Knighted. I'm in a better mood now. Time to hop over to pub talk for a pint.
