Tommy-- You are right, of course. I have learned much from you, even if most of it was pub talk. And no I'm not going to post this under that thread, because this is a response. But you live for others now. I live for myself. Sometimes I envy and sometimes I don't. Like being a single man in NYC I can't get excited about a baby girl taking a shit in Ohio. (Thank god). Since you are a daddy, and have been since I've had the luck of knowing you-- mushy I know-- but many a time I think of the days you used to pick me up outside Holy's house and we would play football and go to the pub. In my life those were go times- and it wasn't until I met you that I finaly got over Julia. So I try to understand to the best of my ability. But where I am now, I like to have sex for the pleasure, not the function. I'm sure you understand that.

what you perhaps do not yet know, my dear and special friend, is that the best reason for having children is the pleasure they give you. this may read like a twisted version of hedonism but it is true.

the key to pleasure, of course, lies in yourself and your own abilities: if you understand drinking, you will be able to derive pleasure from it. same applies to sex, and also, strangely enough to anyone who has never tried it or who is not able to understand it, to parenting.

My son caught his first football yesterday. He also took a book out of his room, handed it to me and we lay on the floor and read it together. He followed this up by smoking me in the head with a bat. Nice swing though.
