And hey, Pixie - I should probably mention that I have recently discovered the joy of oh what do you call it - when they send you your voter ballot in the mail and you send it back in the mail and you don't have to go to the polls? At first I was shy about doing it for some reason, but then I gave in when I realized that this time I really WON'T be able to make it to my neighborhood polling place on that day. Of course I do believe it's too late to do this for the Nov. 2nd election but it's something to consider for the future. Look up the info, give them your name and address, sign the form and send it back. It's that simple. They send you a ballot in the mail about 15-20 days before the election.

I wonder if the reason why so many regular college age young people don't vote is because they are so far away from their polling places?

Also, I really really didn't want to leave this thread without mentioning how delightful it is to hear from Sloth's wife Ingrid on the Paxacidus! There have been some really great threads lately here I think - I was just amazed at the stuff people have posted - it's like everyone is in top form all at the same time - and then to have Ingrid turn up was like that extra surprise icing on the cake. Hello there! :D

marky - it's sort of too late and not too late; being in a city area there's this place I can go to vote before 2 nov and do that - which I will be doing probably Saturday. Because well - even though it means waking up before noon on a Saturday I suppose it's worth it. Luckily for me, it's about a ten minute walk down the street to cast an absentee ballot in person.
Lie to me, it takes less time to drink you pretty.

Absentee voters in the most populous county of a critical state in the presidential election are complaining about a ballot layout that they say might prompt some people to choose the wrong candidate, or none at all.

Another voting issue was left in limbo for Ohioans Wednesday when a federal judge rejected Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell's latest order on how to handle people who try to vote in the wrong precinct. The dispute means election boards may receive two sets of orders as they wait for an appeals court to rule.

Sid Blumenthal wrote a column in the guardian today that was quite optimistic from a democrat point of view.

Well I haven't read that yet, but I do recall some Brit organization or other that predicted Kerry will win just because he has more royal blood than Bush. Sure it sounds like hogwash to me, but they claimed it's been a very reliable way to predict the thing. Does anyone remember this news story? I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

If that's true then why isn't Sir Shaun Ryder the king of England?

In the modern era, you should look no further than the work of Vernon Bogdanoor on the constitution. That should give you the "official" take on why he hasn't donned the ermine and jewels. (Or should I say unwritten constitution in the case of Blessed Albion) I don't want to say too much here on an unsecure (Or looking at the list of pax moderators - insecure) site. I am informed that Shaun Ryder has been kidnapped, along with Bez, by the government. This is incase a gang of religious fundamentalists got hold of them and had them urinate in a major London resevoir. Thus drugging up millions of people for at least 20 years.

Why don't we tie up a few loose ends here and now. Pixie: make a sign that reads, "Will flash tits for vote." That way you can get a ride to the polls and get filmed by the local news and we can all get a blimp of your knockers.

The pax and the free word will thank you.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, was why I got paid the big bucks.

Or

That, ladies and gentlemen, is why I am sat at home on a saturday night talking to my computer.

Tommy- I've been having more fun than you in the last 2 days.

Pixie- why do all the people who push for people to vote always assume that they will vote for Kerry? But who cares when you can see beautiful breasts.

depends what you mean by fun. My daughter did her first ever shit on her own this weekend. I was so fucking happy I can't describe it. It's a day I will never forget. (Like that trendsetter, Martino, I say this without irony.)

Regular posters here know that I'm all about making the lifestyle fit the life. If you don't make your fun that which benefits your children (or your marriage, or relationship or whatever) then things go bad quickly. Before you know it, you're Courtney Love.

Because people who vote for Kerry are lazy? Or disaffected college students much more interesting in getting drunk and then laid than voting? Or maybe because as Bush is already president, only the people opposed to Bush and his policies give a damn the election?
Because Republican voters are uptight, anal retentive types who would never ever dare to not vote? (okay - unfortunately that last one is a little too true of this campus!)
