Bush will win
Bush will win
Kerry runs one crappy campaign. Bush will win. That's my call.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Even his ads have started featureing Edwards instead of Kerry, since he comes across as so slow and boring. Charisma is a big part of Politics these days, regardless of ideology or integrity. I'm not saying Kerry has either of those, but it would be nice if someone did.

slate.com, quoting very favorable polls since the dem convention, is saying the race is for kerry to lose

on the other hand, the smart money (the people who are betting, i.e. putting their money where their brain is), is once again for bush

Up here we just had an election that was Stephen Harpers to lose. He got thrashed. Our Liberal Governemnt has stole, lied and cheated for 10 years and the still won a minority government. Why? Because Harper figured he didn't have to go negative. He figured that all he had to do was stand there and smile and people would vote for him because of their hate for the Liberals. So very fucking wrong. I hear the Dems don't want to do any negative campaigning, that is a huge fucking mistake. Bush is going to pull out all the stops and when it's done he'll win. Kerry's compaign is soft and toothless and it will cost him.
The main problem with the democrats is the reason we like them...they haven't totally lost their idealism. They believe that they can win campaigns the honorable way, by tackling issues, usingreasoned arguments, and espousing many policies that are good for the majority of the people.
The problem is, unfortunately, most people don't have the patience to sit through explanations of ehat is good for them. They latch on to buzzwords and one-liners like "No New Taxes" and "Return to Family Values". THey also don't see themselves as part of those masses that would benefit from social programs. They all believe that someday soon, they will benefit from the policies that help the rich. They also remember the little half-truths and outright lies that sound scandalous when they are brough up in smear campagns.
They believe that Kerry is a flip flopper because he said one thing, then voted differently in the senate. They don't care that the reason he voted that way was because there was some ridiculous rider attached to the bill that he didn't support. They don't care that the negative things are obviously just smear. They believe what they hear most often, and lately that is that Democrats are lying, pandering, flip-flopping, Euro-loving, anti-American-family wusses who would give America and the American way of life away if the UN told them to.
Unfortunately, that is what many Americans believe, and unless Kerry does some serious targeted campaigning to convert the middle-of-the road, instead of just preaching to the converted, Brett is right. Bush will win.

I'm with ya Brett. Lately I just keep thinking "But why does Kerry have to be so butt-ugly?" And what happened to the fire Dean was supposed to light under his ass?
I mean sure, someone decided he was our best chance against Bush, and then everyone followed. But is he really? Why didn't Edwards just get picked for crying out loud? He's better looking and a southerner, which would put him ahead right away despite any charisma or lack thereof.

I hope not... but you're probably right. As the sloth said: eitherway we're fucked.
I suppose I could never be republican... because terms like "the American way of life" and "family values" make me cringe.. no shudder.... and images of mccarthism, rounding up asian americans during WWII, KKK rallies, red scares, coat hanger abortions, and 1950s America flash through my mind. Maybe I'm just exceptionally jaded and negative?
Eitherway I'd prefer to take family values off the political agenda... and keep the fear tactics like those of the cold war out as well.
