AIDS
Bush said no to any more American funds to help the fight against AIDS. A spokesman said, America pays more than all the other countries combined. Like that is something to be proud of. Who spends more money making war than all the other countries combined. Yeah yeah.
But yet no one has mentioned on this thread what is making me so goddamned angry about the AIDS thing: the U.S. AIDS policy is blocking efforts by other countries to help provide lower cost generic drugs to AIDS sufferers and instead insisting that AIDS funds are spent on the ridiculously expensive patented ones. That's right kids, if there's no generic drugs here, we can't have any generic drugs anywhere else, especially if they're cheaper and save people's fucking lives who are deathly ill! Why? Because the goddamn pharmaceutical billion zillion dollar industry is in Bush's back pocket with campaign donations, etc.
Just one more way to get people killed to feed their greed. Iraq isn't enough.
In other news, I must admit I was heartened to see the Senate Republican majority leader Bill Frist, a doctor, say publicly that indeed, health care does need an overhaul. Not only that but (let me get the paper now) the chairman of General Motors said rising health care costs are diminishing the competitiveness of U.S. businesses abroad and that health care reform should be the top issue for whoever wins the presidential election.
To these I say: No SHIT sherlock! Republicans have to see the bite it takes out of business profits before they get interested in health care reform, you see. If they'd just gotten on board with Clinton when he was ready to do it, then we wouldn't be in this mess. DUMB ASSES! Everyone, everwhere in this country, no matter who they are, has LESS MONEY IN THEIR POCKET TO SPEND because of skyrocketing health care costs. One out of every 3 American uninsured means the insured and emergency rooms pay for it, etc. etc.
Okay, end of rant. For now.

Sloth, you sure make me wish I had the fortitude to buy hard liquor again. I'm just not sure I do. It's like a one way ticket to horrible hangovers for me. I'm on a wine kick. Can't seem to get off it. Don't even want beer or Guinness anymore. I like the pink kinds of wine since it's summer now: white merlot, white mixed with cabernet, and yes even chardonnay sometimes, but champagne is great, too. When the weather cools off I'll go back to reds, most likely.
I think it's funny you coined the word "Nush"...
There is a bumper sticker in the window of a place near my house that says "Diapers and Politicians need to be changed often, for the same reason"

Does anyone remember last state of the union when bush declared he would be giving 15 billion dollars in aid to africa to fight aids? Well here are some specs on that program
first off it is a loan, with interest, to be paid back by the starving people of africa. (but an argument can be made that a loan is fair, okay, but not 'aid'
second the program is being run by the recently former ceo of Glaxo-whatever drug corporation. this is interesting because...
a third provision say that Africa is not allowed to use any of that 15 billion to buy cheaper, generic drugs from countries like canada and brazil (brazil apparently manufactures lots of good aids drugs)
so what does this boil down to?
We give african nations 15 billion dollars, they have to spend that money on overpriced american drugs, the 15 billion comes right back into our economy, and africa still owes us 15 billion plus interest, which, by the time africa can actually earm 15 billion dollars (probably like 100 years) we'll make a whole shit load of money. Wow, nothing like milking the diseased!

Thanks much for the information, but frankly, my potboiler pressure cooker marked "generic drugs" has now exceeded its limit and I must have at least two more drinks or my robot will not function.
If seeing Fahrenheit 9/11 could make me madder than this, I do NOT want to see it. Everyone here now know that you only have to mention the words "generic drugs" and marky will exhibit smoke coming out of his ears and likely spontaneous combustion.

Not at all Mav, it's got something to do with comic strips, ya see. A little to do with Doonesbury [which has also been especially brilliant lately it seems to me] but mostly with the sudden VAST improvement of Berkeley Breathed's Opus comic strip. That viking princess is too much. You'll laugh on a Sunday, yet, folks, I dare you not to laugh. Dilbert was quite brilliant this time as well, but the surprising rebirth of Opus in the past two weeks has been most unexpected.
The famous creator of the old Bloom County comic strip has finally managed a true return to comic form, these last two weeks. Hats off to him! And again, it's the viking princess, man. That's it. The viking princess is it. I can't keep a straight face when the viking princess is around. Dare you not to laugh.

Seriously though, Mav, "Markasm" is good, I like that. I appreciate the creativity it took to get that formulation. In fact, I would categorize myself as a fan of sarcasm, although I wasn't intending to be so at the point you thought. Anyway, "Markasm' is a creative way to use words and I admire it. Cheers.
