Read today that the great DB has had an emergency angioplasty during his tour of Germany. As he is the recent parent of a baby girl (as well as a genius) I wish him a speedy recovery. By his own admission he has been lucky with his health so far. Perhaps that is about to change.

I had occasion to go beering it with a doctor about ten years ago. He was part of a special unit that wait for the green light with regard to young healthy people having a major trauma and dying. (Usually a car accident) They would then swoop in and harvest the organs for transplant. He said that it was dispiriting to see how many hearts he had to throw away because of cocaine use. He could spot a cocaine heart from a hundred yards away. It was never my drug of choice but after his description of the damage it was right off my list.

does the mean I should throw away my donor card now? Actually, despite my drug use I'm not sure my heart would be useable. Something may be though....

Beering with a doctor. What did he say about livers? I'm sure he wouldn't want mine.

I heard once that the the human body can function normally with 90% of the liver already destroyed.

As for the cokers...

I would think the doctor would be more concerned with young conservatrives than with young coke snorters.

After all, a bad heart is better than no heart at all.
