I vote against the cable modem for two reasons:

1) Security. With a dial up at least you aren't online perpetually. I used to have a cable modem at my old place. It's more expensive, too.

2) Since I got the latest version of Real Player ("Real One Player" I believe) I have been throroughly impressed with the fact that I can listen to radio (i.e. John Peel on BBC) without having a cable modem or even DSL, and without the sound breaking up every 5 seconds. Haven't done as much with visuals, but again, I'm impressed with the improvement the folks at Real Player have managed for a little ol' dial up person like myself.

Sure I would love to go to Sweden, but I'm not even in a financial position to go to L.A. this summer which I considered for quite some time.
