Bonjour, and welcome to the bb of bad behavior, Wenda! Do you love the Tour de France? How do you feel about an American from Texas named Lance dominating your terrain like no other?

well I'm not really into 'Le Tour de France'. Sorry, knowing that a guy from Texas has dominated French is like knowing that a guy from Alabama has just brushed his teeth. Although I love to ride bikes for my own pleasure.

Since you're into apologizing needlessly, I am sorry that I've stereotyped you as a Texas-drawl-hating Frenchie. I am from Missouri, and we pronounce 'r' as a terrible noise. My French teacher hates this state. I've heard Texans speak your language, and their accent makes it sound ugly, too.

And it may not matter that Lance Armstrong is from Texas, but it does matter that he is from America since bicycling is a European dominated sport, and Lance is only the second American to win the Tour.

I love to ride bikes for my pleasure, too. Le velo la bicyclette do you know why?

It may matter that he's from America, but personnaly it doest not matter to me. I'm for whoever wins, or for whoever lost (people never supported those. I've never really been patriotic; or maybe with the exceptions of a few things such as our wine and cheese, which I can't compare with anything I've tasted elsewhere; But I'm open to suggestions.
Vélo ou bicyclette... Do I know why what? the difference... I personnaly never use the word 'bicyclette', but I guess some do, I have no answer to that.

I was wondering why bike has both a masculine and a feminine form. Most riders I associate with consider their bikes to be female, and they give their machines female names like Rosie or Peggy Sue. I do not know the sex of my bikes.

To me, a bike is definitly masculine in my mind... to ride a bike.. I might be infuenced by the fact that in my mind, a bike is first of all 'un vélo'. I've always rejected the feminine couterpart, 'une bicyclette'. It sound old, ugly and old-fashioned to me, but again, I know people still use it. I might be experiencing personal unconscious repressed emotions.

I think a certain French femme should feel mighty fine inside that there is a section thread just for her before she even came to Pax Acidus.

et un 'velo' c'est la mot juste, je crois. n'est pas?

Here is a short poem I wrote in Paris five years ago. If you have been to France and tasted the food and wine all you need is three words. It's complex in it's simplicity. I hope. Maybe the only thing that tastes better in France (or the whole world) are a few of the women.

I don't have a bike here, but I do in France, it's not a motorbike. Though I used to ride a scooter when I was younger.
Rosie I'd like to ride with you sometimes, I just don't have a bike.
Un vélo, ou une bicyclette, both are correct. My friend from Quebec prefers the bicyclette, I don't. Question of choice and sound preference.
