I love movies that break conventions. An entire movie based upon 2 people's conversation strolling through Paris. No classic beginning/middle/end. They are both amazing actors.

I love Julie Delpy's Nina Simone impersonation at the end.....what a great ending to a great film.

Julie Delpy is sexy as all hell. And Ethan Hawke...sigh. Ever since Dead Poets Society I've waited for him to declare his undying love for me.

I haven't been going as much to the cin, because it costs $10.50 even during the day, there is no discounted shows so I have been reading and renting music DVD's and weird little films like Gone to Coney Island on a mission from God be back 5 from Kim's Video- Kim's sells music and movies and are soret of like Scarecrow-- they also sell the dual DVD players that play all DVD's UK and USA and France and all over the world and all films ever made so I bought one of those and have seen loads of only UK and France released jewels.

I got Spacemen 3 and Galaxie 500 DVD's now.

I haven't seen it either, though I think maybe I should. I haven't seen many movies lately, paradoxically because I've been working alot lately...and the company I work for tests movie previews, so their work is keeping me from actually seeing the movies. Plus, Mccutcheon isn't here in Seattle being a bad influence on me and convincing me to go to the movies with him in the afternoon a couple of days a week. I don't tend to go as often if I'm going alone.

So, the point is, I need to make a point of seeing more movies again, because I miss it.

Marky I just mixed Bert Jansch's Needle of Death with New Order's Cries and Whispers unto CD.

Surely Jansch didn't do a song called Needle of Death - much too goth and metal sounding a song title for Jansch, surely! Ha ha.

Funny you should mention the whole mash up phenomenon -
I could have sworn my roommate was playing one tonight of Mamas & Papas California Dreaming with some dance beat techno underneath it. Or maybe I just made that up in my head, I don't know for sure. I couldn't hear it too well, but it kindof captivated my imagination, the idea.

Morrissey's song "Boxers" sounds closer to the Smiths than anything I've ever heard Morrissey do.

New Order's "Cries & Whispers" rules. I went to see that film once (I believe it's an Ingmar Bergman film?). It was okay, but not as good as the song.

nobody said whether this thread is supposed to be about the best movie of the year, or the worst movie of the year, so here i go, on the latter...

the worst movie i saw (and it's only august, for chrissakes) was van trier's Dogville.

jeez, that was a stinker. somebody wrote that the question about Dogville was not whether the movie was anti-american -- the real question was whether Dogville was anti-people. i'd answer that question with a simple "yes".

when you consider the super-cool cast involved (including lauren bacall, ben gazarra, stellan skarsgard, nicole kidman, james caan) you might call it the greatest waste of talent ever.

over here, Dogville was a magnet for anti-american pretentious self-righteous types, like Dogshit is a magnet for... well, i'll leave that one up to your imagination.


the other worst movie of the year for me was actually made in 2002 but it took 2 years to cross the pond: larry clark's Ken Pond. since i just saw it yesterday it qualifies for my worst list (meaning, worst movies i saw this year) for sure.

larry clark manages to make teen pornography look unattractive, which is some mean feat. you wouldn't believe this guy: here is an episodic movie about kids in LA who screw and suck and scateboard all day, and after about 20 minutes i had to fight an overpowering urge to leave the movie house.

just thinking about these two movies makes me want to consider doing something drastic, like buying a tv set.
