Hey -
I was browsing the web and on a whim decided to put in Crawling Chaos, the name of a Joy Division era band (I never thought they were all that good, but I was testing something and they
were just the first thing that came to mind) and
it turned out to be the name of a story by H.P.
Lovecraft about a guy who overdosed on opium
during the time of the plague. It was an enthralling
story about a dreamlike nightmare state the guy went into. So I'm wondering if anyone has any opinion/experience with the writings of horror story writer H.P. Lovecraft. I've checked out a book from the library, just to give it a go. But I haven't forgotten that I plan to read Raymond Chandler's The Big Sleep before the summer is out. I've tried to read that book both times school stopped this past school year but didn't have time to finish it.

My older brother and his pals went through a big phase in which they loved H.P. Lovecraft, so I tried to read some of it, and I didn't get it, for horror I will have to stick to Poe and for sci-fi, it will have to be Bradbury, but that is not at all answering your question. These guys who are a lot smarter and better read than I am think Lovecraft is great.
I only remember one story, and I think I was twelve when I read it, so the memory is scrabbled up with about a thousand scenes from the highly thought provoking Sweet Valley High series;the story involved a creature from outerspace that lived in a bush, and I think it had a bunch of eyes. That's my knowledge of Lovecraft.
