what if it was impossible to love you
if my sorries ran out one day
and i couldn't find the strength to come back
what if i couldn't give you the rest of my love
if i couldn't live up to the person you wanted me to be
and i didn't know how to get off the roller coaster
what if it was impossible for you to love me
if i loved to hate you when you got mad
and you hated to love me when i said i was sorry
what if i let you walk away for the last time
if i watched you turn your back and cry
and i was just out of reach to pull you back
what if i wasn't sure of myself when you asked something
if i couldn't give you an answer quick enough
and i was left in my pondering silence again
what if you hung up on me for the last time
if i tried to call back and you didn't pick up
and i was forced to write sad poems the rest of my life
what if it became impossible to love you
because we couldn't communicate like you wanted
and i was suffocated in my efforts to make it right
because sorry wasn't good enough this time
Yes. That poem saved my current relationship surprisingly one morning. He left me to cry in the living room and we ended up going to bed still mad, which I hate to do, and when we woke up we both laid uncomfortably in bed silent for thirty minutes and when he got up to leave, I got pissed and threw my journal at him and he started to get mad, but he picked it up and my phone rang...blah blah blah, he started reading because I let him read my stuff and he started to cry. And we worked things out! Yay!
I saved my own life.

letting people read your stuff can be a lifesaver.

it can also leave you vulnerable and wide open to heartache
If someone wrote me that poem I'd leave and never look back.
Sometimes the best thing for both parties is, "what if..."

I agree. It can leave someone vulnerable too, but he was the one who told ME "What if I got tired of hearing you say you were sorry?" And I wrote that the night he told me that... so yeah, that's how it saved us. He didn't think he hurt me that much when he said that to me...
