Socialism

Well I know, I said Orwell was a genius, but that isn't really the point. The point is he was a socialist.

Am I fool to believe in socialism? I'm trying to figure this out.

If anyone has any opinions on it, I'm all ears, uh...eyes.

People should read his 'Down and out in Paris and London'. Better social structure than 'Animal Farm'. And no stupid pigs. And I blame him for my drinking habits. When I was a little kid (12?) reading 1984 the main dude kept well lubed on 'oily gin' so I went and found a bottle some where and read the whole book twice out of my small mind.

Oh the good old days of my youth, I blame my sex habits on my dad’s sectary. She would stay late and offer to take me home so I could use the computer to write my already wonderful English essays, but after everyone left she would come over to where I was typing and put her hand down my pants. She felt me up as I wrote. I thought, this writing thing is FUN! And a little scary, she was a woman. Remembering her body and the way she undressed for me is still in my top five wank fantasies. We would listen to Prince and get it on, she taught me how to touch her, and I did as I was told- I was 14 she was real old, 23- and yeah 1999 seemed so far away.

That's one of my faves... how long ago did you read that one? Orwell is a great fucking writer. I have to admit i never got into the whole 1984 thing. I think that was his worst book! Maybe I ought to try that one again... any comments?

If you mean the ending to 1984, I always thought one of its greatest strengths was that it failed to have a happy ending. The first time I saw the movie, before I read the book, it was the lack of resolution at the end that made me really want to go back and try to understand the whole thing.

Just my two cents...

Happy endings are unrealistic.

The best you can hope for is a happy middle bit.

Right o' Sloth-

Endings are just that...endings. To twist a plot around and adjust the climax to support a happy ending is pure shit.
