come versus cum

Post by martino »

i don't get it!

in school, i was taught that it is bad form to write "cum" instead of "come" -- it implies that you are a pornographer, or a shmuck, or akin to one of those ridiculous people who use emoticons Image ) .

(by the way, what does one say, when one is tired of saying come/cum? i dislike the american verb "to orgasm". i like the afro-american "to nut" which of course is derived from the rap idiom "to bust a nut"; but can a women say things like "wow honey you sure made me nut"? i don't think so!)

but i digress. what really throws me off balance is the (for me) new, past-tense form of "to cum", which is "cummed". damn!

what does pax acidus say?

ps: at Googlefight, "come" still wins!

I'm confused as well. Language is always changing and at the moment is getting more casual, but I'm not sure I like it. And you know what? It might be because of the Internet and Bulletin Boards like this one.

Changes I’ve noticed lately have to deal with the shortening of words. I thought when it came to writing novels it was better to write out words instead of the abbreviated initials and such shit. Like: okay, deejay, and tee shirt instead of OK, DJ, and T-Shirt. In the novel Frog King, the protagonist fancies himself a hip linguist and says that OK is the proper way to write it. Why? I forget at the moment. In the early works of Irvine Welsh he used to write out Deejay and has now converted to DJ for both verb and noun. When it comes (sic) to the sex act I like ‘comes’ as the verb and ‘cum’ as the noun i.e. McCutcheon comes in her mouth. She swallows McCutcheon’s cum.

Actually I find the whole "okay, deejay, Tee shirt" business somewhat offensive. It just doesn't look as good for some reason. Plus, it distorts the original form of those words. T-shirt or D.J. keeps intact the reasoning behind the name: the shirt was shaped like a "T", and D.J. is for disc jockey. Okay? Well, I just personally never write "okay". I don't remember the exact origins of "o.k." but I do recall there was originally some reason why it was "o.k."
Perhaps if these terms were difficult for people to pronunciate it would make sense to spell them in a phonetic manner. To do so after the fact is like emphasizing something which really doesn't need to be emphasized.

This is just my opinion. Hey I wonder what Maverick thinks...

Also, "cummed" that's a new one on me. Is that the way people are saying it now? That's kinda interesting.
