oh yeah and Mav. I better get better with age. This ain't no Rock Star gig. hopefully by the time I die at a rather wasted old age, I'll have left behind a few good books, stories and poems. That's the dream. That's always been the Pax Acidus dream. I can't speak for the sloth but I want it more than anything else in the world. it's all i want. I do it without a back up plan. I have a very straight focus. no marriage, kids, money, cars, house, or comfort for me, at least until it happens, so I better get better damn it. right? otherwise I'm going to end up a sad bastard and you are going to have to lend me money for food and a 40.

Getting married and having a job has nothing to do with getting work done as a writer. The point is inspiration and dedication.

Me, I need a back up plan. Even as a successful writer you still need it. After all, it only takes 2 hours per day.

I've always got the cash for a friend in need who needs a 40. On those flush days, I'll spring for a guiness or two.

Donna Tartt has a new novel out. Her last one A Secret History was great. Anyone have her phone number?

Yep, Mc, I always wanna help if I can. I don't know if I really have what you're looking for, but in the 4th edition of Understanding English Grammar there's a list. For you I will type it. If it doesn't help, don't tell me.

The following list of qualifiers can be used with the positive form of most adjectives:
very, quite, rather, really, pretty, awfully, fairly, mighty, too
A second group can be used with the compartative degree:
still, even, some, much, no
And there are a number of others that have a limited distribution:
right, wide, just, just about, almost
Many others are used in colloquial expressions:
right, damn, darn, really
And then the adverbs:
dangerously, particularly, absolutely, politically, technically, especially

I was taught that you should use qualifiers as sparingly as possible and that the more precise your verb, the stronger your writing will be, but I guess that is a matter of style and what you like.

Creative Writer's Handbook second edition by Phillip Jason and Allan B. Lefcowitz is pretty decent as far as providing editing checklists and good general rules of thumb.

Yessir, Sloth, I am in Seattle. And I would like to get together, tennis, or pints, or both. I wanted to come to Kinkoras the other night, but missed it.

Let me know when/where I can reach you, or post it here. I'll try to check it often.

Mav,

I want to play Tennis. Ken wants to play too. The rains seemed to have started but maybe we can play on the nice days. Weekends are best for me. Is there an indoor court in Seattle?

I want to have a Pax Acidus night every Saturday. Nothing official, just a drink session. Meeting up with Mark was great. A truly great guy. The more the merrier.

the best way to get a hold of me is by email at sloth@paxacidus.com but my land line is 206-726-1514.
