I have Dharma Bums, it's written by Jack Kerovac who passed away in 1969. I don't get the Snyder connection, enlighten me.

Gary Snyder happens to be the character Japhy Ryder, one and the same. Snyder (Ryder) was about 25 years old when Kerouac met him in San Francisco. The young Snyder so influenced Kerouac with his aesthetic nature, peyote eating, yab-yum ceremonies, wine drinking, and poetry, that Kerouac made him the center force in the novel. Snyder hated the book.
