Rip it up and start again

Post by Tommy Martyn »

Marky, McC,

you probably know about this book (subtitle postpunk 1979-84) The author has a long debate about it on slate.com with some journalist. Check it out it's right up your street. It also has a link to the song "Party fears two" a song that I wail at moments of crisis.

Thought you might. Did you read the bit at slate?

Other business: Jon Stewart is funny. The gag about scientology was great. I thought it perfect that Hollywood was unable to laugh at itself.

I listened to the cheiftans get interviewed on NPR a couple of days ago. They told the story of how on time they invited Van Morrison up to do a couple of songs. He took over the show and they did seven or eight numbers with him. That takes some balls. Van Morrison. I fucking love him.

van morrison is great. i read an interview that he did a bunch of years ago where he got real ornery with the person interviewing him and said something like if my name was bob dylan you'd be drooling over me and asking better questions. that's not a direct quote

madame george that took balls. and it's a great song. i love van morrison too.

madame george!!!!

Post by megapulse »

i can't find my cd with madame george on it. i'm craving my madame george, it's not a real hunger, just a craving.

tommy you're free to tell me if you think it sucks. i think it's the best van morrison song

is madame george a transvestite, someone once said that.

is madame george a woman

is madame george a madame

what do y'all think who is madame george in your opinion.

to me she's just one cool chick in one extremely long enigmatic and beautifully done song.

(and mc, i agree, i don't think john stewart is funny either, although the canadian guy that comes on after him is hilarious. he's funny as shit; john stewart comes across as too nice to be smart ass funny, too normal to be odd ball funny, too coordinated to be slap stick funny. and too un-leading-man-handsome to be cary grant/ george clooney funny)

Oh, my god I'm so stupid sometimes I make myself laugh. Stephen Colbert is not only a fake newsman, he's also a fake Canadian. God Damnit! He is a Southerner! who started with second city in Chicago! This somehow completely explains why I think he is a hell of lot funnier than Jon Stewart. But I think I've exceeded the whoops limit today. I'm done.

MC, just so you know. Jon Stewart is from New York. I don't think the New Yorkers are selling out their native son.

Van Morrison and Bob Dylan will never be crap. Now you on the other hand started off crap and never improved. But I will give you the chance. Make the changes to NYCScribbles, get all those GAY photos off there, or in a corner, YOU do like I asked and U 2 will be a GOD.

I sent ya a fuckin book- that you gave away in a London pub.

I love you like no other. We hurt the ones we love.

My love to Tony and Sloth, the only cunts that care. They know what I mean.

that's a good question. about the connection between bob dylan and van morrison. i have no idea. the interview was in a book that i didn't buy.

but what i meant was van morrison i think is / was rumored to be a pill during interviews.

i'm going to have to go buy a new copy of astral weeks.

and with all this van morrison talk for anyone who's interested, van morrison has a new cd out this week, but i agree sort of with sloth and after astral weeks i stopped buying them. however, i keep losing astral weeks, so it's like i keep supporting van anyway.

no, i can't name it although i just got back from getting astral weeks again and dug through about ten of the new album to find the one remaining astral weeks. i almost freaked out -- because i drove an hour just to go to the store i knew would have it, and then i found it.

i tell you what lester bangs knew exactly what he was talking about. astral weeks is perfection some days. like today, when your year's been shit, you put in sweet thing and you're like god this is it. you are brilliant van morrison!

sweet things, my neighbor just brought me a box of old fashioned buttercups and daisies. i'm going to get to the garden and then the bike. this is a sweet thing kind of day.

And I will not remember
That I even felt the pain.
We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty and wet with rain
And I will never, never, never
Grow so old again.

Oh sweet thing, sweet thing
