The code of the woosters

Post by Tommy Martyn »

Actually it is the Da Vinci Code (There is a bouquet on the way to the first mortal who is familiar to with the code of the woosters) and it is not bad. Tracy found a copy in the airport in Florida. (And I mean found, it was down the back of a seat) I started reading it. The cops and robbers bit is standard airport novel. I enjoy the art history stuff and it pulls together the dribs and drabs I have learned about the knights Templar.

Verdict: Shakespeare can rest easy but Tom Clancy can fuck off.

Am I right in thinking it has sold 25 million copies?

I have no idea what you're talking about, code of the woosters?

However I am not surprised. I have not even read the Da Vinci Code. It was in my house for a while. Sitting there, staring at me like all of America has read this book (well not really), and you have not.

I traded someone my copy of penguin classic vampire tales for it.

I just don't know. Dan Brown. It's a boring name. Would you really want to hang out with someone named Dan Brown?

Hi this is my literary friend, Dan Brown, man of letters.

Not really. So I can't really see hanging out in his imagination.

I'll admit it..I like the Da Vinci Code. It wasn't perfect, or particularly deep, but the factual information about the Catholic Church was interesting, and the spy stuff was good escapist fluff. Don't be such a snob McCutcheon. You write novels about Cheese smugglers.

is in fact, a novel by P.G. Wodehouse. He wrote a lot of stuff. I love it all. Humour does not date well. The passing of the years havebeen kind to Bertie Wooster. Bertie was the other half of Jeeves and Wooster. Now do you know what I am talking about?

Be still my beating heart! Nietzsche has been mentioned. You know someone starting posting a bunch of pictures of philosophers on a non-music part of the music board I frequent and he found this picture of Nietzsche that was a lot nicer looking than the ones you normally see that look so intimidating. It was kindof cool. Okay I found it here it is:

Now...jeeves & wooster? I see from looking it up that it was a TV series. I never saw it. I only know jeeves as the butler of the 'ask jeeves' web browser. Was Jeeves a butler on the show? Looks like Wodehouse was English, died in '75. Hmm...Why do you say the humour didn't date well?

"Now do you know what I am talking about?"

No, I still don't.

But if it's good, then I'll take your word for it.
