A Poem to King Edward II of California

Post by guest »

I know now that my best friend was imaginary
Because I never could take pictures of you.
They always ended up a close-up
Blur of colors, some fleeting second of once
Believed truth, racing too fast for the camera
To capture and prove and own.
I think I love a ghost.
One day when I am dead
Like you I will be extremely expensive & hard to come by.
Quickly now
I run myself headfirst into the ground to join you.
You were the wave that drowned me naked.
You washed over me and I embraced it.
A Christ shroud to cover me when
I am cold marble
& jaded.

& remember everyone, you can always beat a dead horse because the animal is dead and of course you've won the game.

"I think I love a ghost"

there is just so much truth in that -- and the idea of pictures, and imaginary friends

I really don't think you can hold on to anyone; maybe that's why photos are so popular, you know, actually being able to keep someone in your hands forever.

It's a great poem. It made me think a lot. Thanks

i'll say what i liked, that poem "Look away". i sort of didn't like the very end just because the list got kind of long, but otherwise i thought it was really good. i'm not great with literary analysis but some elements of it, to me, had an almost Rimbaud-like quality. i liked the poem alot.
