So my first novel, Planet of the Ravers, is finished and I need it edited.
I found a professional editor I like and she wants to charge me $850.
Here are some comments:
"Due to the strong language, casual, explicit sex acts, and the overall subversive tone of the book, a traditional publishing market would be difficult to find. However, if self-published and marketed to the appropriate sub-cultures, it may find a following."
Other comments are like,
"Vixena's ideas are pretty extreme, making her a terrorist rather than just a dissident. The idea of killing our leaders in order to effect social change isn't likely to be well received in this day and age, even by similarly disillusioned youth."
I think overall she's right, but I can't decide if I want skis or to get the book edited. I mean, she did the first three chapters for $50 and that's all any agents want to see anyway.
"The author does have some measure of skill with words and has structured these first three chapters well. There are very few errors in grammar or punctuation."
No one so far who I sent the book to has complained about the grammar, as they have all been 10 year old drug addicts.
I think I'm buying the skis.
