Got this story from a guy named Duncan. Shall I post it or not?

nah, i wasn't a fan of it. But sloth you just DID post it. I can get into the abstract as much as the next guy but there wasn't anything in there that made me WANT to crack into Duncan's head...

I read it twice and um... I didn't like it any better the second time 'round. *shrug*
I just don't like it... I'm not sure it fits with the other works on the site either. But eh! What do I know.

i don't have a finished opinion yet, just some questions...

is this piece for real, or is it a parody of the rasta religious philosophy?

are we supposed to take all that "i and i" stuff, the reefer-as-sacrament, the political paranoia seriously?

if this piece is for real, then why would an author think that PA (where religious issues tend to revolve around the question of whether to be agnostic or atheist) is the right place for this kind of mystic literature?

(nota bene i call it literature, giving it the benefit of the doubt -- some parts are well written)

since i don't suffer from a cultural inferiority complex, then why should i take seriously a piece that addresses the reader as "you honkies"? i think that is an amusing but racist term; if a friend calls me honky it's ok but this guy desmond is not my friend.

This puts us in an interesting quagmire.

This is the second short story that we've been submitted through Pax Acidus Interactive (PAI) that I can say is minimally satisfactory. Some have been really shit. The story is written by Duncan, who writes from the perspective of a Brit of Jamaican ancenstory. From the picture submitted along with the story, one can see a late thirtyish white man making some sort of cross between a peace sign and a fuck off gesture. I will post it in the next post.

I agree that the story is not up to PA standards and is not in the same vein. Then again, it is certainly publishable and talks about London which I feel is cool. I have been to Brixton and trust me, the place has a rough feel. People pretty much tell all white people to "fuck off" if not with their mouth that certainly with their look.

I like the piece, better perhaps, than the last piece we accepted (http://www.paxacidus.com/content187.php) . I had rejected the other piece but McCutcheon approved it, so I changed my mind an approved it. I thought McCutcheon accepted it because he was being political (the author runs a radio show) but when I asked him he simply said he like the picture, which made me feel confused and I hoped that was a joke. Rereading the piece it has a certain charm. Short and sweet and like something I may have wrote myself 10 years ago.

I mean, the whole point of PAI is to post other people's underground/alternative work, and we gotta start somewhere. Does the picture change anyone's mind? What do you think?

I am not gonna waste any more time over it. I will go with whatever people vote for at the end of 30 days and do the same with all the new submissions I feel are at least of a minimum quality such as The Story Of A Lily Pt.1.

Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate them. Please continue.

I am gonna get back to working on my new short story, called, I Left My Pants in San Francisco.

You might want to add a voting system to each story. Let the readers rank them that way, I think that would help weed out the bad ones.

so will you post my work if you like my picture?
Heh, sorry, I was just uber amused. The picture doesn't change my opinion of it tho'. It just makes me a little more confused by it all ... or maybe that's the hangover.

Hangovers can distort reality :)

I am gonna let people vote on all the new submissions. That is the best way. That way the readers decide for the most part what gets posted.

Anybosy ever get into Bad Brains? Its a raggae band from the 80's...

Bad Brains were also hardcore, the best albums were divided into both.

I picked up a bad brains album the other day. It is fantastic except for the 'jungle' remixes at the end of the disc which remind me 100% of the worst of an already limited genre.

McCutcheon, I have a feeling we are the ones who liked the story and voted for it? Am I right?

Yeah it is kind of funny that I'm always getting attacked on my drinking when lately I haven't been drinking that much and every time you post you are hung over and every time Marky posts he is drunk. But do I poke fun? No.

And I bet I've run more miles in the last two months than you two have done your whole lives combined. But to each his own. Still it is taking a long time to get in shape and it pisses me off.

I need a drink.
